I have a dell 1700 laser printer, i just recently purchased brand new ink cartridge from Staples about 2 weeks ago, and ever since my order papers have been coming out with black lines and ink crust on the outer rim on the paper. Do i need a new drum, or was I sold a defective ink cartridge? thanks in advance!

  A:
  Everything you mentioned can be caused by a bad drum or toner cartridge putting out too much toner. If you machine is not telling you it is time to replace the drum, it is probably caused by the toner.
