After a couple of days, very satisfied

Found this laptop after my 3 day old Sony Vaio blue screened and died. Specs for the Dell were nearly identical, except for no lighted keyboard, and a slightly faster processor. With only a couple of days experience, I can't pass final judgement on this, but I am liking it so far. Windows 8 and touchscreen are pretty alien to me, and there's not much documentation to assist in learning, but I'm enjoying the experience.
I've owned Dell desktops and have had good experience with the brand - and Staples!

The dell computer is ok. Don't have any problems with it. Windows 8 is the worst operating system I have ever used. Do not like the touch screen either. It is too sensitive and confusing to use. Love purchasing products from Staples but wish I could take back the day that I purchased this computer with windows 8. I went out of town a few days after I purchased it so was unable to take it back so now I am left with a computer that I truly hate.

Transferring data from apps on my previous computer has proven to be a bit of a challenge. Unfortately windows 8 insists on my creating a windows email acct which I don't want to do so some of the installed apps cannot be used. this is a touch screen and can be sensative to stray/involuntary thumb touches to touch mouse. Machine itself is very well made, what I expect from a dell and the staples price was also very good. Windows 8 is what prevented me from giving the item 5 stars. Time will tell with getting some of those other apps woking on this new laptop.

This computer was purchased as a graduation gift which will be given to the individual on May 25th.
I would buy it for myself if I needed one at this time, but it is for a college freshman and I wanted to choose one that would be able to take him all the way through college. With the speed, memory and other features, it should do very well for that purpose.

I am a fan of Dell. I think this machine is a great value plus Dell does not install a ton of needless software. I mainly us the machine for MS office products and browsing the Internet. My one minor observation / issue is the hdmi, LAN and audio jacks all come out on the left side of the machine and can get in the way when plugged in. Add a usb device or two and it gets crowded. I prefer all peripherals to come out the back. But, as I said, this a very minor inconvenience. The price i paid, speed and comfort of the laptop far outweigh this minor issue. Enjoy and good luck.
