I am a graduate student and thus am required to write a ton of research papers. This product is great because it produces a nice clean and easy to read document everytime I have to print a document. However, the printer is an all in one and prints both black and color copies but does so with only one cartridge. Therefore, I usually only can get about 100-125 pages worth of material printed with one cartridge. That means that I am having to change the cartridge very often.

Based on the Lexmark 1 Cartridge System

There is no black for this system developed by Lexmark some time ago as their #1 cartridge. This means that the unit creates black by mixing all three colors together. It also means that it can not create as many shades and hues as a normal printer can, as they would have all 4 colors, rather than only 3. As you can surmise, this makes this printer type eat their ink in a hurry.

Any machine that use these types of cartridges (Lexmark #1 and Dell Series 6) are best used as a starter printer, and only as a machine to take you to your next printer, which will be hopefully better in capability and resolution.

Dell has these made by Lexmark which is a good printer manufacturer. However, Dell went for a single, three-color cartridge. It has no black cartridge. It winds up printing poor quality prints in both color and black (which it gets by mixing the three colors). Moreover, with only one cartridge you only get about 100 prints. I finally took the printer back to the store where I bought it.
