The Epson LabelWorks LW-400 is a great little label maker and works as advertised. This is only the second label maker that I’ve every owned but, it works great labeling all the things (personal property) that my wife and I have on our Motor Home. It would be great if Epson lowered the price of the label cartridges, there at lease double the amount I paid for the labels I used in my old label maker. I would think you would sell a great deal more Label Makers if you lowered the price on your cartridges. I would definitely use it more if it wasn't so expensive to user.

I just wanted a simple label maker with capability of mulitple font sizes. This one looked good...on paper. I liked its nice small size...and reasonable price. When I unpacked it, I sat for an hour trying to figure out how to change the font size. I did what the (LARGE) instruction sheet said to do. Nothin'. Finally gave up and asked my husband to give it a shot. My hubby is my tech guru. He can do nearly anything with a computer. He worked for about 1/2 an hour and finally said "I give up." We both followed the instructions to the letter and got nothing. So this puppy is going back. My behemoth Brother label maker, which I've been using for 10 years, is looking pretty good right now. I'm giving 3 stars because it probably makes great labels...if you don't mid huge print.

Comments about Epson LabelWorks LW-400 Label Maker:

The Epson labelworks LW-400 is a great buy. I haven't had it very long so I haven't had time to play with all the styles and fonts, but we have one at work and it can also be used for iron on labels for clothing. Just be sure to buy the iron on label tape. Most of the label makers leave WAY too much excess blank tape on either side of the print word which is a major waste of label. I think the other makers do it on purpose so you run out of tape faster and have to buy more tape. Epson's maker has less wasted tape which was a key reason why I chose it.

Creativity!

By CeCe

Comments about Epson LabelWorks LW-400 Label Maker:

This labeler is very versatile in its usages. You are able to get as creative as your imagination takes you within the parameters of what is offered. Being able to use 3/4" as well as 1" tape (the variety of tapes is almost limitless!) makes it great for all types of projects. Although I have found the instructions a bit hard to decipher due to lack of detail & assumptions that you should already know the answer, I feel that with repeated use, I will be able to master most of the intricacies of the labeler. If you have never used this type of labeler before, be prepared to waste some tape in the process of learning how to use it.

Not all combinations of font/sizes look good

By saspus

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Epson LabelWorks LW-400 Label Maker:

Its OK printer, the UI is adequate and easy to understand, in spite of what other reviewers say. My issue is with the font rendering quality - it tends to over-dither large font, making it look "dirty" and not only kerning is nonexistent but also at some smaller font sizes the letters tend to either overlap or to leave ugly gaps between. So matching font and font size combination that look OK is a long trial and error process, and I only ended up with just one that does not look ugly - Gothic with 2-line printing size. Bottom line, if you don't care about typography it you'll be happy with this printer, but if your eyes hurt when looking at poorly kerned and typeset text - then seek alternative.

Nifty label machine with lots of features.

By JohnD

from Boston MA

Comments about Epson LabelWorks LW-400 Label Maker:

Just like using a new cell phone for the 1st time there is a learning curve with using the LW-400. The people complaining about it being hard are the ones that haven't taken the time to get familiar with it. For the price it is one amazing little machine. Some cons: the screen doesn't display what the actually label will look like. It just displays the Icons, Text and how long the label will be. The manual is sparse. It is just a few pages long and explains things, but could have been much more helpful if it gave examples.
