I knew this was a good printer before I purchased it, I didn't just how good it was until I made a dozen prints. Of those twelve prints, ten were BW, mainly on Velvet Fine Art paper (8x10's) and two on Luster. I also printed a couple color images and was just blown away by the detail and gradation of the tones in the BWs as well as the color tonality. The printer came very well packaged. Many many small pieces of tape held everything together. A good paper manual and the quick start guide made for an easy installation. The driver software loaded without any problems as did the paper ICC profiles. Everything worked right out of the box. Prior to making a print I performed a monitor calibration. Aside from some minor differences in dark tones, the printed image did a great job matching the screen image. One minor annoyance, the rear manual paper feed is a bit finicky when it comes to loading paper, sometimes taking two or three times before it is fed correctly. Not enough of a problem to decrease my star rating. Maybe things may change with time, but my experience right out of the box is nothing but positive and I would highly recommend this printer. The price is high, but keep in mind that you get fully charged 80mL cartridges with the printer. This is arguably the best printer currently on the market. Can't wait to print some 17x22s.

Great Printer, issues with Mac driver

This is an excellent printer when it prints. Unfortunately, even after reinstalling the latest printer driver on my Mac pro tower running PS 5.5 under Snow Leopard, it keeps hanging up. I had the 3800 before this, and loved it. As I said, when it is working, it produces beautiful rich prints. I wish the printer driver worked better. I often need to produce proofs under tight deadlines, and it is a pain when the printer refuses to print.

Would Not Recommend Yet

Had carefully unpacked, installed ink cartridges. Printer was charging when some part below the print head (a webbing of plastic and foam), evidently came loose. Print head slammed against the part and snapped it into three pieces. Printer issued an error code number 2011 and told me to contact the service center. I'm dead in the water with brand new cartridges installed and customers waiting. Can't really recommend the product yet until I have had a successful print come forth. Would not recommend at this time. Sorry, Guys.

Awesome Print Quality

This is the third Epson printer I have owned in the 3800/3880 print line. The first was a 3800 that was in daily use for over 5 years with no maintenance beyond regular consumables. When it finally died, I did a quick calculation and realized that I had owned it for less than a dollar a day. So naturally I did not hesitate to get a 3880, and recently bought another 3880 for use at home to replace an aging 2400. My photography has been all digital for about 7 years, and the Epson prints have never failed to dazzle clients. I do not keep ink in inventory - Epson ink is a living thing, so I just buy new cartridges when an old cartridge gets low. However I recommend that you buy the inexpensive Ink Maintenance Tank and keep it in inventory. When it's full the printer will stop until you replace it. And it's not a living thing, so there is no harm in leaving it on the shelf for months. I have tried several brands and combinations of paper and always come back to the Epson brand for the best image quality, especially the best Lustre paper. Crane Museo also gave me good results, but the differences between it and the best Epson Matte paper are, to my clients, indistinguishable. I confidently recommend this printer. It can run all day long with consistently great results.

Epson 3880

I have been using Epson printers for digital photgraphy since the Epson Sylus Pro 700 and Photo EX. Each succeeding generation has been a remarkable step up from the previous generation. I recently upgraded to the Epson 3880 and was amazed at the increase in quality from the prosumer line (2000P, 2200, 2400) of printers. The increase in clarity and color accuracy was astounding. Additionally the B&W capabilty directly out of the box was a real treat. There is no metemerism present under mutliple light sources, which was very apparent with the 2000P and 2200. It is even an improvement over the 2400. I also apprecaite the large size ink cartridges. They are more cost effective than the smaller sizes of the 13" printers. Additionally, the ability of this printer to print on heavier paper is superior to the earlier printers. The 3880 has a rear feed for single heavyweight papers and the take-up system works extremely well. I have had no feed failures so far with up t0 300gsm paper. The more I use the printer the more pleased I am with it. Thank you Epson!

First time Epson usersâ€™ advice; definitely consider the Epson 3880 printer, for superior quality images and easy setup. Keep in mind that a digital photograph is only a digital file until printed out. With the Epson Stylus Pro 3880 I felt I could achieve great quality prints and I have. The Epson 3880 is one beautiful machine, superior design; build quality excellent with superior print quality. The uniformity of ink and the colors are gorgeous. Easy set up, means you are up and running in no time. Using ultra premium luster paper the closest to archival wet prints. Pre-installed ICC profiles, large 80ml cartridges are definitely a bonus. Would have like to have the availability of roll paper but when you receive 99% of everything you want in a printer one canâ€™t complain. Conâ€™s: Large Footprint, no USB cord
