Great scanner!!

The GT-S50 works great! Scans are consistently good quality, no misfeeds or shredded documents (5,000 pages and counting). Recommend it for personal or small workgroup scanning of documents of up to ~50 images. Scanning larger documents (to one PDF) is likely to take a while because after the computer converts a scanned image, it must then append it to the PDF file ... which takes progressively more time as the file size grows. After about 25 images, the scanner starts slowing down. At 50 images, it's crawling (from 20 PPM to 1 PPM). My computer is a new MacBook Pro with the fastest processor, has lots of processing power ... and the GT-S50 consumes every bit of it. The only issue I've experienced was during setup. The quick start guide says to install the software first, then connect the scanner. The software CD wouldn't install automatically so I located the folder on the CD with the software and manually installed it. The installed software didn't work. I then went to the Epson Support website (under Mac OS X - Lion) which said don't use the CD, just connect the scanner and Mac OS X will discover it and install the correct driver(s) ... which it did. Nice if Epson updated the quick start instructions to save this bit of extra (unnecessary) work. A nit: all of the bundled software (OCR, bizcards, etc.) are Windows apps. Nice if Epson would reflect this in their product materials. Bottom line: if you have a Mac, you get a scanner ... no software. :-(

Deadline-dead

Ordered a workforce GT-S80. Arrived seemingly intact. Problems with freezing after installation. I live in the middle of nowhere. All epson could do is suggest I take it too a service center. My deadline has passed and I am returning my unit. Too bad, looked like possibly a good unit. Support is paramount when it comes to matters like this as is time.

Very Capable Machine

Got this unit 4 days ago to replace an AIO not from Epson that was painfully slow at simplex scanning. What a remarkable difference! Throughput is dependent on host computer, as it blazes with a recent Mac Mini and is a little slower with a gen one G5 machine. Feed is relatively robust--800 pages of sometimes questionable paper and fewer than 5 misfeeds so far. I have worked well though a 4-year backlog of scanning quickly and shouldn't fall behind again.

Versatile quick scanner

I used one of these in my office for two years and liked it so much I bought one for home. I've had a few feed problems but there is usually a good reason such as thin sheets or punched holes that stick. The software could be a little more user friendly and flexible, but it gets the job done well. I dropped to 4 stars because the paper guide is not long enough to always keep the paper straight while scanning, and the receiving tray does not always keep the paper from falling out. Scanning quality is flexible and excellent with several resolutions and output formats to choose from. The included OCR software works well. I also scan photos and the resolution and color accuracy is good. I would buy another!

I've been using a flat bed scanner for the last five or so years and been somewhat happy,but now I am totally amazed at how efficiently the new Pro- GT-s50 copies single and multiple pages. As I learn each new feature I am encouraged to experiment with both the program and the hardware because I know I am finally getting a hold on my record keeping and eliminating useless paperwork in my filing cabinets. Great Scanner

This is a great Scanner, we scan 150 to 200 pages a day of varius paper types and it really works great. We have had a rough worker breat the paper feed part which was hard to fix.

GT-S50 Does not age well

I have had a GT-S50 for about a year now. After about 6 months the scanner started to have problems. It stopped pulling all of the pages through. I would have to take the pages out and start again. Then it started pulling some of the pages through at an angle and wrinkling them. It doesn't do it all the time but often enough it makes it hard to scan a pile of pages. Then it started turning up the corner on some of the pages, sometimes the right side sometimes the left side. It worked very well when new. For the first 6 months I would have recommended this scanner to everyone.

  As per the manufacture Epson, no this scanner is not compatible on a network, it is only usable by usb 1-1, unit to PC. May I suggest the Staples item number 658355, Epson GT-2500 Plus Color Flatbed Scanner, that has optional network scanning capabilities which is ideal for small business workgroups.
