I bought this because I needed to scan a lot of documents and the scanners on all-in-ones were not fast enough or duplex capable. I've been impressed with the speed of this when I take the default and scan in black and white. I found if you change the default to color or a higher resolution or add OCR, it can slow down significantly. I think a lot of it has to do with the software on my laptop rather than the scanner itself.I have had some problems with pages sticking together and the occasional jam. It is tough and yet simple in that it doesn't jam sometimes on things you would think it would like staples. One thing I love is how simple it is to clear a jam. Just open the front and everything is out of the way unlike most printers. I also like the small form factor as I'm usually taking it somewhere and it's half or less the size of an all-in-one. It also does a great job scanning duplex. While I'd prefer to scan to PDF, the software provided can't convert PDF to text via OCR. You can scan in Multi-TIFF format but you can get some really huge files you may not be able to open if you scan more than 20 color pages at a time.Overall it suits my needs well. It occasionally jams or skips a page but I think some of that goes with the territory. One thing I liked with the software is you can set the page orientation before you scan. If you removed staples and want to scan upside down to avoid jams feeding the staple end, you can set it at 180 degrees and it all comes out correct when you finish. Some things that didn't work that well or slow were the software to do OCR, remove punched holes and sometimes eliminate page skew. This seems to work better sometimes than others and on the page skew, it may be that I forgot to set it properly.I paid [$] which was more than I wanted to pay but I'm pleased with the result.I also found that the scanner and software can get out of sync. It's best to always use the same USB port on your PC and if the software and scanner are not talking unload the software and reload it. This solved most communication problems for me.

Got this to replace an old HP flatbed scanner with an ADF top. The ADF was failing so I decded to get a "real" sheet-fed scanner. This Epson sets up quickly and scan fast. The user interface is a bit difficult if you know what settings you want to use to get best document reproduction. It's fine if you want their default settings. The reason it's going back to Staples is that too many pages are showing crooked text on the page. This looks like a design flaw in the way the printer holds the paper. There are only very small short guide bars only an inch or so above the feed wheel, so it is very easy for letter size sheets to get skewed on the way into the scanner. The whole reason I bought this was to feed text documents in and get hundred of pages of good-looking, properly oriented text in a PDF. For this use, this is not the scanner to get. I'm going to try either the Fujitsu S1500 or the HP 3000 instead. Thank the gods for Staples 14-day return policy, that's why I buy things there.

Much faster than the Multi-Function machine I was using. Occasionally jams, but I use a pdf merge program to combine the files quickly. Takes up very little space. I might get one for every desk in the office.

This purchase is my worst in many years. Written documentation is extremely minimal. I spent
2 1/2 hrs with tech support and was passed to three different people before being cutoff. Never could get the software properly installed. Gave up and returned it to Staples. The only good thing that happened is Staples took it back. DON'T BY THIS SCANNER!!!

As per the manufacture Epson, no this scanner is not compatible on a network, it is only usable by usb 1-1, unit to PC. May I suggest the Staples item number 658355, Epson GT-2500 Plus Color Flatbed Scanner, that has optional network scanning capabilities which is ideal for small business workgroups.
