Workforce Pro WP-4540

This Workforce Pro WP-4540 is state of the art equipment. It is very economical, fast and versatile. I was original looking for a Laser jet but found this to be the perfect alternative. This machine is fast, easy setup and can handle any job! It does have a large footprint so keep that in mind if replacing a ink jet printer but if your replacing a large Laser jet, this is a perfect choice. I chose the 4540 instead of the 4530 because I wanted the extra paper feed, 580 instead of 330. If the additional paper feed is not an issue, you can save some money with the 4530.

The quality of print on plain copy paper is not good. The red looks more like orange and the colors look washed out. On business gloss the colors are better but many graphics are smeared. Duplexing causes a real mess. No amount of adjusting the color match, density or drying time fixes the problems. It does print very well on Kromecoat C1 stock. If you don't mind the washed out colors, it is very cost effective and easy to use. The fax and scan features work well.

Great concept Horrible Execution

I bought two of these printers.. one for my bosses office at his house.. Another one for the office.. The one for the house was DEAD ON ARRIVAL.. it would not get past the "choose english" part of the setup. I called Epson who confirmed it was bad so I had to pack the whole thing back up and take it back to the store and exchange it. One for the office Made it two weeks before it started grabbing multiple pieces of paper every time you tried to print. So now it has to go back to Epson If you rely on a laser printer .. KEEP RELYING ON IT. this is a typical lackluster quality inkjet.. It tries to pass itself off as a laser replacement with it's cost and dual paper trays but it has failed me in performance bigtime Not to mention the life workload is rated at 20,000 prints.. So you save 40% on toner but then you have to buy a new printer more often.

Don't even waste your time looking at other brands

Compared to all the other brands I have become disappointed with (and I have used all of them), the build quality, print speed, and print quality of the Epson WP-4540 is far above my expectations. After spending a few minutes getting the wireless running on an 802.11a/b/g/n WPA network, I set it up on a Mac running Snow Leopard in a few minutes and installed on a Windows XP machine in as much time. FAX setup was a breeze, as well. Very nice product and I hope to be using it more than the ~16 months I got out of the non-Epson machine it replaced.

I needed a wireless printer, so I decided on a Epson WP-4540. . I looked at the WP-4530, and the 4540 has the same footprint, just taller because of the extra paper tray. Easy to set up (I have windows 7 professional on both my laptop and desktop). Do download the new drivers from Epson before installation. I selected the Epson over all of the other brands because of my experience with Epson photo printers (3), that I have. I think the only problem that I had was finding a spot for the printer. It is big. I sure would like it if Epson would put the regular full size cartridges in it, instead of the starters. I would highly recommend using a 24 or 28 pound paper, I use 28 pound Hammermill paper for color laser, and do NOT get multiple sheets fed out of the paper tray with this paper. Get quality paper, it works. Overall, I like the printer. I don't need the fax function, but all the other functions perform as advertised.

Amazing value and performance

I am starting a small business, and needed a networked multi-function printer. I was also thinking about setting up a remote print server. The WP-4540 delivers quiet operation, performance that exceeds all my expectations, and simple setup on my Macs, iPad, and even a Win7 netbook (I skipped the installation CD, and went straight for the latest files from the Epson website). After years of using small consumer inkjets, if ink costs are even close to specification, I'm going to be over the moon. Between wi-fi and Epson Connect, the remote fax, scan and print capabilities are impressive, and have eliminated the need for a server. I can even print photos straight from my iPhone when I'm out on the road, no additional apps required!
