Nice screen size. Searchable POI database is nice but missing some data. If the screen were any larger it would be too large. The 1490T even works on the passengers lap providing the power cord is not all bunched up.

Works very well, keeps up with vehicle.
Garmin maps still not up to date even with newest software. Roads around my house in Central NJ have been changed 5 years ago, large bridge built, still not on maps.

I have another review about this unit that I gave my wife for Christmas while we were visiting friends in St. Louis. The unit worked well with just two episodes where it locked up and another where it wanted us to drive us off the ferry in the middle of the Mississippi.

We returned home to New Jersey and noticed the directions never made sense when we would pass through the intersections of Rt 130 & 206. We just laughed that off. On Jan 10 we were out for a ride and I looked at the unit and the screen was blank. I thought my wife had turned it off and she thought I did.

No matter how many times we pushed the on button the unit would not turn on. Yes, it was always plugged in. On Jan 11 we returned the unit to Staples who did refund our money without a problem. At the time I talked to one of their techs who said this has been a problem along with the unit locking up.

We decided that a GPS is a cute toy, but do just as well with paper.
