I'm a Mac user and don't fiddle around with long setups -- I'm definitely plug and play. I had expected setup to be a pain based on other reviews I've seen, but it was incredibly easy.

I love my Garmin and am glad I paid a bit more to get one with the 5-inch screen instead of the smaller screens. There is a lot of information on the screens (speed and speed limit, lane information, etc.) and I think it might be a bit crowded on a smaller screen, bearing in mind that you need to see everything at a glance while driving.

For me, the lifetime maps and traffic are both really important features. Several freeway construction projects in my area mean I'll need maps updated regularly, and I use the traffic feature on a daily basis.

The traffic updates could be a little faster, however -- there have been a couple of times when things look green on screen but I'm in a hot mess of a traffic jam. Usually it's fine, but this issue is the reason I gave only 4 stars instead of 5.

I upgraded from an old Garmin Nuvi (about three years old), and I was really, really surprised to find that I wanted to go straight back to the old one. This new one has some really interesting features I loved - it has the speed limit signs, the awesome "mini exit map" that shows the exact exit to take, and a more updated-looking interface.

All of the data was accurate. The speed limit signs usually were correct, and the paths it wanted me to go were the most efficient ones (as far as I know).

However, this GPS lacks in one huge, fatal aspect: inputting the address to get to your destination. Whereas my old one required a (albeit, annoying) process that took 15 seconds, this new GPS easily takes over a minute - and that's mostly in load times. If it just took extra time to put in the information, I'd be okay. But no - I'm sitting there staring at GPS waiting for it to load.

You see, the old GPS allowed you to input address, house number, city, and state. For some reason, Garmin decided this was a silly way to do this, so on this NEW GPS, you now just input house number and address. And it then searches the entire nearby 5 states for every darned address that matches that. Then you get to choose the City/State that happens to share the address that you wanted, so it may require scrolling through multiple options. Yes, you can imagine, this is a nightmare.

I wanted to love all of the new features - I did. But jeez, that's awful. I'm going straight back to the old GPS - even if it doesn't have the updated maps I wanted from this one.

Keep the Recharge cord with product

Comments about Garmin nuvi 2555LMT Portable GPS:

I'm one of those who uses a product and also time was short, with all needing same cords and helping to pack up another person out of apt, got the cord for this product mixed up with his cords and need it to have traffic with product. Some directions are a little bit off, but has map and easy enough to figure it out. Wish I knew an easy way to change the directions for others like you can tell them if something is not there anymore.

Comments about Garmin nuvi 2555LMT Portable GPS:

Bought this model to replace my lost Garmin 765, which I loved. However, this new model far surpasses my old one. I love the split screen that comes up when approaching a major split off or turn. The voice is excellent and the graphics great. Menu is easy to use and it came ready to go right out of the box. Registering was simple and I love the lifetime maps feature.

Growing on me

Comments about Garmin nuvi 2555LMT Portable GPS:

I wanted a larger screen and got it. I wanted to be able to download all saved addresses from old Nuvi and got it. I wanted an easier format in entering and saving new addresses, changing volume and other items and haven't found them yet. This Nuvi is not intuitive, has a lot of new symbols which I find confusing, and has a poor internal help function. However, if you go online and download the manual, a lot of searching will probably answer your questions. Something as simple as saving a new address required a manual search to find the answer. If you are a senior citizen with a degrading short term memory, this is not a unit for you. Unfortunately I suspect all new units will fall into the same category.

Love lifetime map updates and traffic

Comments about Garmin nuvi 2555LMT Portable GPS:

Love the lifetime map updates and traffic. Love the lane assist for exits, most look like an actual picture of the road. Disappointed it seems to take a longer time to connect with the satellite, my older Garmin connected much faster. I saw previous reviewers complain about putting in an address and not having option of putting in the State and I found you can by hitting the add additional information option. So far I have found it to be accurate and have not been directed to one way streets the wrong way or to the wrong location as someone I know had her older GPS do when we were traveling together. I would have given it 5 stars but it really takes a long time to connect to the satellite.
