Every year since the 2007 Federal Tax Filing season, members of my family have asked me to review or "do" their taxes. It seems the hardest part for them is keeping the tax documents as they receive them, and then keeping an organized system going once they are filed. Since our state has income tax as well, I decided the best thing would be to start them with two of these files. One labeled incomeing and one labeled complete with the year written on it. I then only have to keep a 3 X 5 card with the basic profile for each family. I also add an "expiration date" on the pocket file. In my prior employment the two excuses I heard the most from my TP'S were "I lost my documentation" or " I didn't know I needed to keep it for three years." My family "clients" are now organized and safe in the event of a correspondence audit.

The size for letter size folders are 8.5 X 11, for the file pocket it would be close to the 9x12 which will absolutely fit into a file cabinet.
