I've been using H-P printers in the office and at home for about 20 years.

The temptation to save money or to have a non-HP feature is often tempting, but i've never succumbed, having seen even the older and original Laserjets pump out 1,000 pages per day in an office environment, day after day after day.

Yes, the ink and toners are rather pricey. But I'll happily pay top dollar to get a first class printer from the American company that virtually invented laser and ink jet printing.

It's toner, it's black, it's simple to manufacture, and it always works; ergo, it should be a commodity product. But it's not.

Staples used to carry generic HP toner cartridge (in the green box) that would fit my HP1012 printer. But for whatever reason, it is no longer available.

Now, I'm forced to pay confiscatory prices for "name brand" toner cartridge. Fortunately, I'm a casual printer, so this is a semi-annual purchase. But for a nickel, I'd switch to a printer for which there was an available generic cartridge.

We print invoices each month and unfortunately that seems to be all this little cartridge can handle. We replace the cartridge once a month (at [$]a pop). If you take the cartridge out when it is looking/acting low and shake it a bit to re-distribute the toner it extends the life a bit.

      When the ink runs out, I do not dread replacing this toner. The package is user-friendly, remove the old toner, replace with the new one and package allows for easy storage of old one to turn in for credit.
