I Take photography classes and do my owne prints. My prints are the best in the class. They even look better than the ones some classmates have printed.

just dont last as long as they used too
Though this is the "XL" size, it doesnt hold a candle to the number of copies I get with a #15 cartridge in an old HP750 I have.

Comments about HP 74XL Black Ink Cartridge (CB336WN), High Yield:
I thought it would last longer - No way does it print 750 copies. I need a new cartridge every month and I only print 20 or so copies a day. It costs more than I think it's worth. I'd get refills elsewhere except H-P wouldn't guarantee machine.
You may have a defect in your printer that is giving a false reading. Check the ink level on your printer's ink level page. Also there are some HP printers that have been giving false reading's and HP wants to know about this.

You may need to clean and prime the cartridge.

Do you print daily Fran? If not, they may actually dry out from not being used as much, and the printer responds with a low ink status. Perhaps you should track the # of copies made, or change your printer quality setting to normal vs. photo? I've been buying these for about 5 years, and have never had an issue with an XL not yielding at least 3x as many copies as a standards.

I don't know the answer, but I know that I can use HP cartridges way past when I first start getting warnings. I only replace when they actually die.

You can continue to use it for awhile after the low ink light comes on. You just need to monitor it. The low ink issue has actually resulted in a class action lawsuit against HP-- you should google it to see if your printer is on the list of ones effected.......

This could be due to sub-grade material used with machine? I have not found this with any HP product I have purchased. I go with HP everything and have not had any repairs in the 6 years of computer equiptment and accessories.

Fran, You can try taking the cartridge out and reinserting it, making sure that it is in properly and not leaking. The low ink indicator is a problem on some HP printers. Check HP web site for more information on that.

Q:
Will the 74xl cartridge work in a Deskjet F4480 printer?

Q:
why can't I find out any information about my officejetj6450 any where in your catologs or online,I do not walk around with the type of ink cartridge in my mind all the time
It does not list a C5550 on the box. I use it on a C5250 printer. It does list the printer C5580 to use the 74XL. I hope this helps. By: Grandma

According to www.hp.com, it does. Select Photosmart 5500 Series and model C5550. The 74 and 74XL are listed as compatible. Good luck! I will always check the manufacturers site and then find a good price at Staples!
