Good color quality but expensive

Wish I knew before I purchased printer that it stops working when any cartridge is detected as needing replacement and all must be replaced. If color runs out, then black copies should still be generated. Would like to be able to use Black XL with smaller color cartridges since I mostly print documents without color. It is very expensive to have to replace all at the same time, I would like to decide when print quality is degraded by low ink rather than have the machine stop printing. Ink smears when using highlighter.

The Cyan showed empty the next morning after 5 Black and white copies, making the printer inopperable.I was given a used 940XL from next door, switched the ends to fit my #88 needs, to avoid driving back to Staples. Just shaking the new cartridge, I can feel there is no ink. There are no signs of leakeage inside the printer.I hate every last bit of this purchase. If there were negative stars, this would rate on that end of the scale. Also where are my Staples rewards? I am upset again just doing this review!!I hate every HP product I have ever puchased.
