It's pretty straight forward; there's the long cord connected to the power source, the actual charger, and the adapter (if it's necessary, depends on your model). Basically, I work on projects at home (sometimes hours on end) and it comes in handy. Then, I'll go off to a center or the local library to keep researching and it's saved my life (seeing how I'll stay there from early morning to late into the afternoon). The problem with it is, rarely, in public places you can't find the needed jack. On top of that, there's always a chance of risking a "surge" -- that's the awesome thing about it!

A surge can potentially destroy the laptop, but luckily -- the charger is surge-protected so the only damage is to the charger rather than the actual laptop. This only happens after multiple uses, so be careful to make sure you know the voltage of the jack that you're plugging it into (mostly those airports and other public areas).

Besides that, there's much not to worry about it. Small, compact yet you can unwind it to find a decent-sized cord that gives you flexibility. I would definitely recommend this for general use to traveling.

The adapter that plugs into the laptop is 2-3 inches. This attaches to power supply which attaches to plug. If i move the laptop the adapter detaches. It detaches so often. I wish this replacement was the the same as the one that came with the laptop. No 3 inch adapters. It falls out often and I usually dont notice until my battery is completely dead and the computer shuts off.

    Purchased as replacement for the 65W unit supplied by HP with 17" display laptop. I feel the OEM unit was under powered and after less than 2 years of service it could not put out enough juice to operate the laptop and charge the battery at the same time. Over a period of several days, battery fell to 0% charge in spite of being plugged in 100% of the time. Tray icon showed "Plugged in not charging." Laptop then proceeded to simply shutoff at random intervals.
    This replacement unit, with it's 90W output completely solved the problem; charged the battery and eliminated shutoffs. It was a direct plug for my laptop and did not require the included adapter.

      I thought my newly replaced battery was not wroking. Techy friend suggested AC adapter was not charging battery. We were out of state and called the closest Staples. Tech support agreed, AC adapter needed replacing. He not only confirmed what we needed, he gave us detailed directions to the store. My PC is now charging quickly. We use staples for all of our computer and home office produt needs. My daughter works for Staples and has good things to say about the company. You can't get a better recommendation than that.

            This adapter works great on my HP Laptop. I bought it to replace the one that came with my laptop because it stopped working. This one works well and charges my laptop in a reasonable amount of time. It also works well at home or when I am traveling. It can be used in motel rooms or anywhere I need to plug in my laptop. It also packs well in my case when I am traveling. It has a nice long cord so it reaches a plug in most places that I would be using it. I am pleased with the product and with the price. The young man who recommended it at the store was very knowledgeable.
