Q: My HP 8500 all in one printer with 940 C4900A print head cartridge expired on Jan 29. I then received an error message that all four print cartridges were missing and or damaged. Do I now have to replace the print head to fix this problem? If so, nice how HP ties this all in together! Thanks, Asked on 2/14/2012 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: Replacing the HP 940 (C4900A) Black/Yellow Printhead will resolve the issue of the four cartridges being reported missing. The reason for it being linked is the fact you can't get true color with a black cartridge. Replacing the cartridge will reset the system. Answered on 2/17/2012 by Community Answer from None
Q: Pages have excess black ink on the corners and sides of the pages. Is this a printhead problem or something else? Asked on 1/2/2012 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: If you notice that the print quality of your documents has decreased considerably, you need to clean the print head to ensure you’re getting the best from your printer. As you print a document, ink droplets leave the ink cartridge through the cartridge’s nozzle and go to the print head. The print head then lays the ink on a precise point on the paper. As you print, tiny droplets of ink can get stuck around the print head opening. If these drops get time to dry, they can form a crust around the print head opening and cause it to print poorly. Simply clean the print head with paper towel to solve this excess ink on the paper. Answered on 1/18/2012 by Laura B from Staples

Q: I don't know if the black/yellow printhead is bad, how would I know? I have installed 2 new HP black cartridges in the printer and neither of them will print the black ink correctly (the other 3 colors print fine). The black printing streaks and no complete letters (like the ink is running out). Does this indicate that the printhead is bad? I hate to spend the $60 if there is something else wrong with the printer, it is only 1 1/2 years old and of course just out of warrenty. Thank for any help I can get. Asked on 5/22/2011 by Ed from Adirondack Mountains Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: This could indicate a problem with the printhead, but typically your printer will indicate that it is time to replace them. You may want to contact HP at 800-474-6836 to inqure further about this. Answered on 5/26/2011 by Renee L from Staples
Q: I can't understand why my question was ignored. I am trying to get some idea of the life of these printheads. I understand that it depends on usage, but that's also true of ink, and numbers are quoted for them. Are we talking about one every one ot two ink refills, more like 10 refills, unlikely that you will need more than one for the life of the printer, or what? If it can be every refill it more than doubles the price of consumables, so it's not a trivial question. Asked on 5/15/2010 by Brad Know the answer? Answer this question 1 answer A: With HP printheads they do not publish an estimated page count. The number of pages that can be printed with a print head is highly dependent on print mode, media type, and the type of document printed. If print head ‘A’ is used to print photos at Best quality, while print head ‘B’ is used for draft text documents, they are unlikely to last for the same total number of prints. Print head reliability depends on more than just the number of pages printed. It also is affected by how often the printer is in active use, how often it is inactive or in storage, how often it is turned off and on, how often it is moved and how it is moved, among many other factors. Q: I understand the life of this item is greatly dependent upon use, but I need a best estimate. Lets say no photo printing, strictly black and white single sided copies. Asked on 9/28/2009 by TEVET LLC from TN Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: HP does not provide estimates due to the variance in print possibilities. Answered on 11/30/2009 by Customer Care from Staples A: I have had my printer over a year and a half. I use it daily at work in an insurance office, therefore I print several pages all day long. I have not had to replace any of my printheads to date. And I have changed ink many many times. Hope this helps. Answered on 1/14/2011 by Deb the Ins. Lady from Port Isabel, TX
