Answer this question 1 answer A: Typically, the cartridges that come with the printers are smaller than the XL cartridges which for black are good for 2200 pages and HP is not willing to supply the printer with more than a starter amount of ink. I would think that the cartridge should just look smaller but attach in the very same way which makes it very safe, clean and easy once you accustom yourself to the process. If it attaches in a different manner, then I would say that you have the wrong cartridge but if it is just size-then it is the XL and you will wind up very pleased with your product.
