HP products are great, but in the long run I think I'd prefer to pay a little more for the printer and a lot less for the ink cartridges. And did any of these companies EVER think ahout a standardization of their products? Why are there dozens of cartridges for printers made by the same company? Isn't that really expensive? There are no reliable alternatives, so buy them we must.

Usually I have no problems with black cartridges bought at Costco, however these black cartridges I bought at Staples were faulty and have been failing every other time I go to print something. It says that its a faulty cartridge and to replace it.

I have always been a fan of refilling ink cartridges. Sure, every now and then one leaked or didn't work quite as well but I prefer to use actual HP inks for my printer now more than ever. We have an HP 7410 in the office that we use everyday so of course to cut costs, I tried having the cartridges refilled. They worked great but the big downside was that the printer would not display the ink icon or be able to read the levels of ink remaining in the cartridge. I learned the hard way mass printing letters. After the fourth one, the ink ran out and all I got was some marks here and there on the other pages. Such a waste of custom printed paper. Absolutely stick with buying brand new HP cartridges for your printer, use the recycling bag they provide for you. Lastly, stay away from the national pharmacy that claims to be able to fill these, they can't. At least not without issues.

Husband and I are in our 60's and have his and hers computers and printers, but share a laser recently. We love HP and just bought twin laptops, HP.... G71's... no more big ole desk tops! we make our own cards and do everything we can via the computer.
