I tried refill cartridges - they are not reliable.
The HP cartridges are dependable and offer great product for the price when you compare printing at local stores.

HP Color Ink Rip off

Ink and toners are rip offs. First, the printer indicates a need for cartridge replacement way, way before empty. And all printer manufacturers use the "Gillette Principal." Give 'em the razor and soak 'em for the blades. Cartridges need to be in the $10.00 to $15.00 range. Curious as to what the profit margin for manufacturers is. That said, color and quality of print on my little HP (5940) is excellent.

I use the HP ink for printing photos. It does a wonderful job with vivid bright colors. Very true to life. If you have a lot of photos to print, maybe over 50, the ink does seem to go quick. But it is still much cheaper to print out your photos at home and very convient. No need to go to the store and go pick them up.
