Print in color or black and white with equal speed using the HP M551 LaserJet printer. Large print runs can be completed in less time, increasing the efficiency of your printing activities. The LaserJet is also networkable, allowing you to utilize it as a shared resource over a network.

Fast and Secure Operation

The M551 printer is designed to make the printing of larger documents or multiple print runs quick and easy. Output from the printer takes approximately 11 seconds from print order to the first page, with an average print speed over the balance of a print job of thirty-three pages per minute for both black-and-white and color printouts. Included security options allow for the protection of your confidential documents. With the LaserJet, you can secure print jobs with user authentication, preventing users from printing secured documents without permission.

Network Ready

The HP M551 printer is networkable using a wired connection. The printer is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port that allows it to be connected to a wired hub or router using a category five cable or above. Once the printer is connected to the network, any computer also accessing the network can make use of the printer's functions. If you'd prefer to use the printer with a single computer, then a connection can be made using the printer's USB 2.0 interface.

HP ePrint Support

The HP LaserJet printer can be used from anywhere in the world as long as it's connected to an Internet source. With HP ePrint support, the printer can be given a unique email address, which allows you to send documents to it directly for printing using an Internet connected device, no matter where you happen to be at the time.

Nice color laser for small offices

After 3 Konica-Minolta Magicolor 4650dn printers, which I loved, I was forced to find another comparable color printer. My concerns were print quailty, reliability, and page cost. Many printers I reviewed would be strong in one category or another. After considerable hands-on testing and reading reviews, I settled on the HP LaserJet M551dn with dupexing.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the ease of operation and functionality of this printer. It is very quiet when compared to my previous color lasers. Copy quality is good. I found out how to default the printer to greyscale using the black toner cartridge only. That gives me the option to print color only when I want to and saves color toner useage.

Great Print Quality, Poor Networking SW

I generally love HP printers. However, their sw is quirky. After spending several hours on the phone and reading the installation instructions over and over, I gave up on networking the printer and had to go USB cable. This defeats the purpose of buying a networkable printer! As usual, the best print quality, but problems with installing the sw for networking. I have owned over 30 HP printers and am trying to remain loyal!

The only negative was I thought we were getting a wireless unit. However, quick call to customer service (talked with an agent immediately) and realized we needed an ethernet connection. Installed the ethernet and were off and printing. We bought HP because we've had a 2200D for more than 10 years. It still works dependably (use it now for smaller jobs). It is also very slow in printing pdfs. The new one is much faster. Color separation is excellent. So far after two weeks the 550 is highly recommended.

Great performance, but . . .

I really like this printer, but quite frankly am surprised that a printer of this cost does not support legal paper. I thought the specs I read online indicated that it did, but does not right out of the box. It is very fast on duplexing and prints nice quality color. A little noisy, but does the job. Not sure how the toner will last, but I do know the replacement toner is expensive.

No Airprint

This is THE printer I need but there is a show stopper. First off, there should be wireless networking built in. Yeah you can add a wireless print server but it should be built in. Second, this is the show stopper, there needs to be Airprint built in as well. Not the HP ePrint; it needs Apple's Airprint. We use iPads heavily around here. They are becoming more and more common. The suggested JetDirect printer server add-ons don't have Airprint capability either. I need a 1200x1200 color laser printer that is not MFP that can do Airprint. Build a version for this with wireless and Airprint built in.
