Network Ready

High Output

The printer has a monthly duty cycle of 40,000 pages. This means you can comfortably print up to 1,333 pages per day without putting any strain on the machine. It features a 250-sheet input tray and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray for media such as cardstock, transparencies, address labels, or envelopes. You can also take advantage of automatic duplexing, which allows you to save money on the cost of paper by printing on both sides of a page.

Printer Memory

The HP color M451dw laser printer is equipped with 128 MB memory, which can be increased up to a 384 MB memory. This is helpful when you have several jobs that need to be printed at the same time. Initial setup was easy on first computer using included USB cable; however, I had to get HP to help me get the printer completely set up on a second computer. In order to complete the setup it is necessary to download a program from HP, but this is not mentioned in the setup instructions. After that initial problem, the installation went smoothly. Printer is very responsive and quick. Quality of printed material is first class. I have a fifteen year old HP laserjet (4000) which I love but which I have to hook to my laptop. I also have a 6500 inkjet wireless printer that goes thru cartridges like a Pac Man and has continuous printhead issues. Hopefully, I can save enough in supply costs to justify the higher cost for the laser printer.

I know how to set up printers. They say this works with Windows 7. I have not seen it work. Windows 7 shows it as set up and set as default printer with a pretty green check. Does not print. I have tried at least 50 times to get it set up using Microsoft answers, HP support (no help - shows how to install....DUH>>>>> install is not working>>>> OK, try to install it from Disc....) I specifically bought this printer because it said it worked with windows 7. Know I know I should have bought a Brother or Dell printer. HP has not figured out Windows 7. Compatibility at Microsoft says you need a free download.. it dumps you on the driver page at HP with several choices... no way to tell which you are suppose to download. I tried them all... Nothing worked. One more week and it goes back.

For text and image quality, it is crisp and vibrant color but in term of printing speed, a bit slow when I tried to print the flyer in double side. I used it as one of my home networking printers. It is very easy setup and no compatibility problem with Windows 7 or Windows 8. In looking up the toner costs, I think they are quite expensive comparing with Canon printer toner or my ex-Lexmark color printer. So far, I am satisfied with the printing job and would recommend for others. Since I just got it in less than 2 months, I can't rate the reliability of it.

Very easy to set up, just remove the tape from the back of the printer and the cartridges, plug in the USB Cable (supplied) and follow the on screen directions. You have a choice of USB Connection, Wired Connection, or Wireless. I choose Wireless, the software asked some basic questions and the security key of my router, then installed software. It then prompted me to remove the USB cable and asked me to print a test page. That's all there is to it. The print quality is superior. I've owned two HP LaserJets prior to this one, and I have to say this printer is the best I have owned to date. The reviews for this printer says it's a bit slow compared to other models tested, but I have to say it's faster that my other LaserJet's I've owned. Very happy so far.....

Q:
The ink for this printer costs $119 per cartridge and you need FOUR color cartridges for it to work! This is hugely expensive. Can anyone tell me if the printer works in B&W if one of the color cartridge is out.
Also- is there another color laser printer that is more ink-efficient?

  You can take out the color cartridges which will allow you to print, but you will receive a prompt every time you print something. If it were me, I would buy one more round of cartridges to get the prompt off of your back, then make sure black and white is selected when I go to file-print. You won't have to buy them again.

  This HP color laser printer uses the HP 305A toner cartriges. HP printers will not operate unless it detects toner in all 4 cartridges. The cost of the toner is generally determined by the cartridges' yield. This toner is priced higher because they yield up to 2,600 pages per cartridge. HP does make color inkjet printers that would use the less expensive ink cartridges. To place an order for this item, please call Staples at 1-800-333-3330.
