I'm a student who uses a printer for documents mostly, and was sick of paying for expensive inkjet cartridges. I rarely print photos or other color images. I don't scan or fax, so a single-function laser works fine for me. Size matters, as I will be in a dorm next year.

The printer wasn't hard to set up. Took me 10 minutes. You put the CD in first, follow the prompts, then plug it in. Easy...

I searched around for a while and when this went on sale (along with another good promotion), I jumped on it. It is nice and small.

The included toner IS NOT full size. The yield of the included toner is 700 pages. The full 35A yields 1500 pages for a little over $60. The "Con" I mentioned was because of this reason, and the 35A is a little expensive considering how much the printer is.

I also compared with the Officejet Pro series, but since this is much smaller/simpler, as well as cheaper, I went with this.

It prints very quickly. Very solid contruction. I compared the build quality to the Brother's and Samsung and this came out way ahead.

This is a quality machine. I'm hoping this printer will last me a good time. I'm VERY happy.

The HP laser series began as the best, and this printer epitomizes what made that reputation. Don't be fooled by the price of the printer in the store, it's the price per page that matters. Once you've run a ream of paper through a laserjet you'll never look back.
For everyday use color is highly overrated and the quality of the image is significantly better than inkjets unless you slow the inkjet down and use special (expensive) paper.
For best image quality, buy paper with a high degree of whiteness/brightness. You can also run about anything else through this printer, including transparencies, envelopes, and labels, all with flat (no wrinkles or waves like on wet inkjet printing) full black, professional quality imaging.
I just bought this one with an extra toner cartridge that should last my sons through 4 years at university.

This is one of those HP printers with an incompatibility issue with Adobe Acrobat and remote terminal servers. I took it back to the store the same day and bought the 2015.

I previously owned an HP1012 which operated far better than the P1006. This model sounds rough when it prints (roller that grabs the paper makes a kind of "popping" sound). The paper tray does not come with a cover which on the previous unit also acted as a ledge or guide for the priority feeing slot. On this unit you have to visually find the priority feed slot and manuvuer the paper into the slot. When printing, as each new page comes out of the printer, it pushes already printed pages completely off the printer and the paper falls to the floor. This is an annoying design problem I don't understand. Maybe I somehow got a lemon, but I doubt it. I will be returning the product.

I bought this printer in December 2007. I print infrequently and the inkjets were always malfunctioning because the ink would dry off. I am very happy with this printer and have not had any issues with it.
