I used an HP 1320 for about 4 years, and its nickname here in the office was my "laser jet plane"... LOUD. Just got this printer this week as a replacement, and I really like the quiet mode. The resolution is great - at least 80% better than my old clunker, even in "economode."
Read some other reviews saying it was hard to set up - we have 4 PCs in our office, and I had no problem setting this printer up as a shared network printer. I have a good bit of experience setting up networked devices, so that may make a difference but all in all this was cake. I have a feeling some of the issues were more related to improper settings.
Another issue noted in these reviews was that it is slow to print PDF files - I have no problems with this, and frequently print 50-75 page forms with editable fields, which generally slows down processing. Again, issues from others on this could be settings, or issues with the PC being used (old, slow, etc.)
Also read reviews that people had problems feeding one sheet or envelope through manual feed... not sure if HP has addressed this issue, but I have had NO problem; envelopes, letter head, labels, and regular copy paper all feed through fine with a single sheet inserted. I didn't purchase the third tray, so I can't provide feedback there. All in all, great little printer for the price we paid!

This printer does an excellent job printing most documents. Basic word documents come out almost immediately and the quality is good. At first I was very impressed. However, the printer takes a long time to "spool" print jobs that contain any sort of image, etc. PowerPoint documents come out in a reasonable amount of time. PDF documents, though, go through the spooling/printing process so slowly it's unbearable... sometimes 30 seconds for a single page (even text-only PDFs are slow, though not as bad as those with images). I'm not sure why this happens- I even tried updating the printer firmware and made sure I had the latest driver. As a grad student who prints class materials that are mostly in PDF format, this printer just won't do the job. Unfortunately I'm going to have to return this unit tomorrow and try to find one that'll work for what I need.
I made the mistake of buying the P2035 printer, and later I returned it for this one after realizing that the P2035 does not work with the 05X extended toner cartridge. The P2055dn works with both the 05 and the 05X toner cartridge. This is simply a perfect laser printer for a small office. It is easily worth the extra [$] over the P2035 when you consider the cost-per-page.

After 90 days printer started to have problems. After repair by HP only lasted a couple of weeks before problem reappear. Staples with extented warranty brought for this printer refused to replace printer that did not work. Returned Printer to Staples with extra toner cartridge and so lost over $400 to Staples. Very unsatisfied with Staples support !!!!!!!
Third time's a charm! I started with the Brother duplex laser...SLOW! Then I tried Lexmark [$] Good, but slow and has Mac compatibility issues. Picked this one up and it was set up in under 5 minutes and printing! It is FAST! For duplex printing: 1.5 seconds on the front side and about 5.5 seconds on the duplex side (7 seconds per page-duplex). Compared to the Lexmark E260d: 3.5 seconds on the front side and 10.5 seconds on the duplex side (14 seconds per page-duplex). Single side printing is true to it's 35 ppm. I'm ex static with this printer and highly recommend it for duplex seekers. I've tried the Brother, Lexmark and HP, the HP 2055dn is the BEST, hands down.

Pro, it is a smaller profile on my desk than my previous HP printer. Con, the above checked items. The paper feed angle on the #1 is too high, so that sitting at your desk you have to partially stand up to see that your paper/ envelope is properly inserted, otherwise it pulls from drawer 2, wasting paper and toner. When I print an envelope, the first one prints fairly quickly, the second takes three times as long. Just not the printer for me.
