We have two of these printers. We print thousands of pages of mostly text every day. These printers crank away quickly without ever jamming. One has a duplexer, the other the extra paper tray. No problems with either. Can't say as to noise as both printers are in dedicated printer rooms. The toner lasts a long time, but we print almost no graphics and this may not be typical. They were easy to set up on our mostly-Mac network, but one of the other techs here got them to talk to a couple of Windows and Unix machines without much trouble.
Having bought several HP printers before, I decided to buy a 4015 - after all, the specs looked great. The first one I got delivered was defective. Turns out, the replacement, while not defective, didn't work any better. It's fast, but it is quite noisy and flimsy. There are chaeper, much better printers than this one and I would not recommend this printer to anyone.
We have it networked with about 5 users in a small office.PROS: way faster and smaller than our previous printer; paper tray holds entire ream of paper (a big improvement over the last printer) CONS: [...] took days of frustrating troubleshooting to set up and we ultimately had to connect it directly to our network switch (HP chat support was very responsive & helpful); it is a bit loud but not too intrusive. Haven't had it long enough to comment on ink use. Overall we are very happy with our fast printer.
There are no print drivers available for Windows 7. You can download standard print drivers which will work with the printer if the printer is directly attached to your computer. However, trying to print to this computer over a network from a Windows 7 machine may take a second, 10 minutes, or may never actually occur. If you are running a network and would like to plug a printer into the network to be shared by multiple computers, do not buy this printer as it will not function in this mode.
I purchased this printer to be a work-horse printer. I have it connected to a wireless router via an Ethernet cable. All computers on the network connect to the router on the wireless network. The router and printer are on at all times. Unfortuantely, the computers are frequently not able to print to the printer as the printer is not able to be found on the network. The network interface card on the printer is abysmal. Frequently it takes well over 5 minutes for a single page to print. Other times it is immediate. The inconsistency of the network connection renders this printer unsuitable for use as a network based printer. It would work well if directly connected to a computer via USB cable. If you are looking for a computer that everone on a network can use, however, I would stay away from this product.
We had to replace our Older model HP4050. This new one is flimsy, plastic is not heavy duty and I doubt it will last past 3-years if that. Not reliable using thin Invoice paper. Jams often..
