We had some trouble getting the printer set up initially and it was unclear whether this was a software issue, os issue, or other issue. Once we got through that though, it seems to do a good job. One major complaint though is that if you do a multi-page scanned document it is a huge file. I wish it would scan to PDF.

In general this is a nice little all-in-one machine... fast operation, compact, etc. However, the toner runs out very quickly. The "low ink" indicator comes on after about 500 sheets (1 ream) of printing with the machine set for "econo" printing and medium low contrast/darkness. So each toner lasts about a week and a half to two weeks for us. Each toner costs about $70 (with tax). So our printing cost is expected to be about $140 per month or $1680 per year.
Comments about HP® LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer:
I'm quite happy with this machine. One drawback, everytime I want to print an envelope I have to pull the paper out, load the envelope, clear a pop up on the screen and then hit the ok button on the machine. Time consuming and I'm afraid in the long run it's going to wear the sliding paper holders out. Does a good scanning job though.
Comments about HP® LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer:
I like the scanner feature the best, with the OCR software. It works well with my computer. I also traded this for an inkjet that was just costing me too much money, especially since I don't print in color very often.
Comments about HP® LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer:
I've had Dell,Epson, HP before. This one (1212nf) is the best all in one I've ever had. And too, its a bargain for the cost. No wait time to print, very quick to copy and great faxing. I would purchase another one. The others would only last 2 years. I'm sure this one will.
Comments about HP® LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer:
Good multi-func printer for the price. Probably not for someone doing heavy duty scanning or printer. Great printer for people like who on occassion work from home or have docs to scan. I trust HP more than other brands; the typical cheap multi-func laser printer is fussy (e.g. paper feeder keeps jamming). This HP one seems solid, and not prone to hiccups.
No, the Multifunction Printer will not scan to word documents. The printer scan file formats are: JPEG, TIF (compressed and uncompressed), PDF, GIF and BMP.

A:
With the HP® LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer you can use OCR software as a scanning alternative when you cannot scan with HP drivers. The OCR software imports scanned text into your preferred word-processing program such as a Word file for editing. You can use the Readiris software that ships with some LaserJet products or other third-party OCR software.

Q:
Does the HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf have an alert when the ink is low or empty. I have a HP LaserJet 3050 now that does not alert when the ink is low or empty and it is very frustrating when making copies thinking you have ink and you don't. Please let me know i'm interested in this machine. Thank you
When a print cartridge reaches the end of its estimated useful life, the product turns on the toner light on the control panel. You do not need to replace the supply at this time unless print quality is no longer acceptable. For pricing and availability please contact Customer Service. Q:
I did a test fax however it wouldn't go through because the home phone had voice mail. Is there a way around this using this model?
