In addition to saving you office space, the fast printing speed of the LaserJet Pro also saves you time, whether you're printing a single large document or handling multiple print jobs from computers on a LAN.

Multifunction Printer

The M1217nfw LaserJet Pro is capable of operating as a printer, copier, scanner, and fax machine, allowing you to deal with most of your office documents from a single location. As a printer and copier, the LaserJet Pro is capable of producing up to 19 black-and-white pages per minute, with the first page completely printed in about 8 seconds. This speedy output saves you time on larger documents or on multiple print runs. The high-speed extends to the faxing capability as well, with the fax able to handle data speeds of up to 33.6 Kbps. Scanning is done in full color using the built-in flatbed scanner. For color output of prints or copies however, a color laser printer is needed instead.

Network Ready

The LaserJet Pro printer can connected to a single computer with a USB cable or used as printer server over a network with a wired or wireless network connection. For a wired connection, the printer requires an Ethernet-enabled hub or router running an existing LAN. For a wireless connection, the printer needs a wireless router running a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n network. After connecting to a network, the printer can run print jobs for any computer that's also connected to that network.

HP ePrint Support

The M1217nfw ships with HP's ePrint support. With ePrint, the printer is capable of being used remotely, with print commands sent to the printer from anywhere in the world via email. The printer must be connected to an Internet source for ePrint to operate.

Poor Mac wireless setup/exc. printer

The printer works great for my purposes. I print wirelessly from my iMac, MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad using the AirPrint feature, and a Lenovo laptop running Windows 7. No problems and it all works flawlessly. I also really like the scanning functions. However, it was a nightmare to set this printer up with my Apple wireless network. In fact, it was impossible to do it alone. I was on the phone with HP and the rep admitted that others using Macs have the same problems. What's that about Apple and HP? I was told that it could take up to an hour for the printer to find the Apple network. It never did. When I told the rep that I had my work laptop at home (Lenovo with Windows 7), he told me that it was much easier for the printer to find the network if we used the Lenovo as the installation computer. It took 5 minutes to do so, and then all my devices were easily recognized. This is a BIG issue if you want to install this printer on an Apple wireless network. You might have a different experience, but as I wrote, even the support rep at HP admitted this is a problem. So, if you want to connect this printer to your Mac wireless network, step 1 is to borrow a Windows based laptop to perform the installation. Sheesh... Oh, and did I mention that the HP manual is totally useless? They saved a lot of money not shipping a real manual, a usable manual, but they lost any money they made on me with that support phone call that I made to get me up and running. I guess they are counting on the toner costs anyway. Now that all is installed and functioning perfectly, the printer is working exactly as I had hoped. It should never have taken all that time to get to that point, however. Four stars for the printer only because of HP customer service.

Flimsy keypad

The unit is good value but you need to support the keypad with your other hand when you enter the fax numbers or press the key to make copies.

purchased this printer because the stand alone scanner I had died. Wanted to go back to all-in-one for the space saving convenience. It was easy to set the machine up and the plug and play technology was compatible with Windows 8

Love this printer! I also have an HP Photosmart printer and both of these printers are wireless. Love the flexibility of being able to use the Laserjet from my cell phone and IPad.I have been a
Canon and Brother user in the past but will continue to put HP products at the top of my recommendations. Now I actually have desk space! Staples has provided excellent customer service in helping with the installation process. I purchased this printer online at Staples and got it the very next day!

Better have the manual handy when setting up. It's ok, not the most user friendly printer that I've used. Toner price is cheap, that's the biggest plus.
Printing is very slow.
