After 10 years, I decided to replace my old HP laserjet all-in-one with a new one. I use it on a home network (connected to the router with an ethernet cable). It has many advantages over the old one:
1. It is easier to set up with Mac, Linux, and Windows computers on the home network than a printer attached to one of those machines.
2. It prints faster, with automatic two-sided printing.
3. The scanner is flat-bed.
4. It should be able to save faxes to a Windows computer instead of printing them.
5. It has an automatic document feeder (ADF) for scanning and copying. (I never got the old one to handle multi-page faxes.)
6. The scanner works with my Mac.
7. Various little features. For example, it has a copying mode that lets you copy both sides of an ID card onto one side of one page, without having to feed the paper through twice.
8. It is black.

It does have some minor shortcomings:

a. It will not save faxes to my Mac nor Linux computers, only Windows.
b. The ADF does not handle two-sided originals. You can make 1-to-1 or 1-to-2 sided copies, but not 2-to-1 nor 2-to-2 sided.

I am very satisfied with this printer. I upgraded from another HP as I needed the automatic duplexing feature. The setup was fast and easy, the printer is fast, and the print quality is exceptional. The paper tray holds a decent quantity and the sheet feeder also allows you to feed up to 10 sheets at a time.

More expensive than a lot of the all-in-one printers, but for the additional cost, it's a better combo. I don't use the fax application, but for scanning, copying and printing, it's quick and easy. Unlike my previous all-in-one, this will scan and copy as a flat-bed, meaning I can get rid of my separate flat bed scanner. This is not as noisy as my previous printer, although it's not quiet either. It also has a smaller footprint than my old machine.

It's a hassle to bring up the manual on screen every time I have a question on how to use the machine. I'll probably end up printing it out--better they should charge me for a proper manual.

  Hewlett-Packard's page on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) indicates that LaserJet multi-function printers are supported for printing only. If you want full print/scan/fax functionality, apparently you need to look to their InkJet All-In-One (Deskjet, Officejet, and Photosmart) devices.

  Yes, this printer will accept wireless printing if you hook it up via an ethernet cable to a wireless router. An iPhone and iPad can print from it then with no problems.
