Expand your office functionality with this 4-in-1 multifunction printer from HP that is capable of speedy printing, making copies, scanning documents, and sending and receiving faxes. The LaserJet Pro M425dn can be networked to serve as a shared office resource, or it can be used with a single computer.

Multifunction Capability

The HP LaserJet Pro printer is a multitasking device. It prints and copies in black-and-white at 35 pages per minute and can quickly produce larger documents or run through multiple print jobs that are saved to its queue. The printer also serves as a fax machine, operating at speeds of up to 33.6 Kbps, and it has a flatbed scanner that allows you to archive color scans to a network folder, an email account, or a Cloud location.

Network Ready

The LaserJet Pro has a Gigabit Ethernet adapter installed for connection to a wired network hub or router. Once connected, any system with access to the network can be used to send print jobs to the printer. The printer can also be connected directly to a single computer using the USB 2.0 interface.

HP ePrint

The HP LaserJet Pro M425dn is compatible with HP's ePrint system. The ePrint system allows you to email print jobs to a networked M425dn printer from anywhere in the world. The printer itself has its own email address that is used to send the document to, and this email address is set up during the registration process for the printer.

Decent with Good Features

This printer was a snap to setup but be careful when you're removing it from the tight packaging container. One wrong move and you could break something. Also - remember to remove the shipping tape & plastic attached to several surfaces and the packing strip in the toner cartridge.

It does NOT have wireless ability, but wired-network is available. If you can plug it into your wireless router then other PCs/devices on your network can access it.

A big bonus to this printer is two-sided b/w or color scanning in the document feeder and two-sided (b/w) printing! That's a rare combination for this class of printers. It allows me to scan a stack of related documents (like notes from a college course) into a single PDF. It can also scan to an image file. You can select from about three different resolutions.

It also has a USB slot right on the front so you can slip in your USB thumb drive and scan the documents right to it.

It has a nifty QUICKFORMS function. It will print notebook paper, graph paper, checklist, or music paper (!). The function is a bit oddly hidden - on the setup screen.

The display screen is also the touch interface and it's generally easy to use but I wish the screen was just a bit bigger.

I think the negative reviews on some websites are unfounded and may be from a disgruntled customer.

This has been the worst printer of my life. I know I sound like I'm exaggerating, but trust when I say that this has been my nightmare. I 1st bought this printer a month ago, from the start a vertical black line going down the center appeared, I called HP, they were kind enough to send me a replacement. Got the 2nd printer, same issue. So finally they sent me a 3rd printer SAME ISSUE. This model is defective and I've never been so dissatisfied. It has everything I need in a printer, is very fast, quiet but this vertical line issue is a deal breaker. Do not buy this printer.

I needed a good scanner and got it with this multi. Fast printing too, copies could be sharper, but can live with it since other features were what I was looking for -- scanning and printing.

For new home based insurance agency, did a marathon online research on AOI printers (still have a 7 year old HP 7300 AIO for backup and color). Bought the m425dn 2 weeks ago.

Was initially swayed by some negative reviews (mostly from late 2012 before firmware release), but decided to buy this unit vs. lower cost HP 8600 Plus Inkjet AIO and other highly rated AIO Lasers because:
- did not need or want to mess with color ink cartridges
- duplex scanning
- very fast scanning (and printing)
- recommended up to 3,000 pages per mo. (50k monthly duty cycle)
- widely available non-oem toner cartridges at 25% HP toner cost for VERY LOW costs per page /
- high toner print page capacity (6700 pages with "x" toner)
- gigabit network speed nice
- ePrint / print to cloud / network
- color scanning
- 2nd tray for envelopes / other paper - 50 pages
- Expandable 250 page input tray option

So far VERY happy. Lightning fast scan / print sped esp. for non-pdf files. It's good looking to boot! Named Black beauty. I did buy locally (read pay taxes) so could return / exchange if any problems).

The only cons I can think of is that it is not real quiet and the wattage use is quite high when printing, though I did not spec this against other printers with similar speeds / printing capacity.

If the above factors are important to you, go for it.

Great upgrade from my HP Laserjet 3380

First of all, I was in love with my HP LaserJet 3380, which I bought around 10 years ago. That thing never gave me any real problems, and I used it daily in my business. However, I had a LaserJet 3330 at my home which developed an incurable case of the "scanner error" problem after 12 years of use, so I decided to upgrade my 3380 rather than push my luck. I consider 10 years with the same printer to be a really good run. I am very impressed with the LaserJet Pro 400 MFP, which I am now using daily in my business. Having just set it up today, here are my initial impressions: 1) Much faster: It barely takes 3 seconds after pressing print in my word processor before the page is shooting out of the printer. This thing is crazy fast. My old 3380 took around 10 seconds. The document feeder is also much faster & noticeably so than the older printer. 2) Easier installation: This was truly plug and play, no CD installation required on a PC. I had no problems whatsoever with blank pages or black pages or lines on the page that some other people have described. 3) Noisier: The machine is much faster, but it's also a bit louder than my old 3380. After a print job is done, there is also some fan noise for about 20 seconds. It's not loud enough to be annoying, but it's noticeable. Personally, I prefer the speed increase and think it offsets any noise issue. 4) Good looking machine: It's smaller than my 3380 and looks great, but I do wish they made it in white or grey rather than all black. This is a minor issue, though. I also wish it had an open-access envelope feeder, rather than making me open the door, but this isn't a deal breaker for me. It still appears better-built than competing multi function machines out there, some of which are ridiculously flimsy (i.e. not built to last). 5) Cost effective: I priced out the cost per page when buying the extended toner cartridge, and it's among the most affordable printers out there. It's also cheaper per page than my old 3380, which I also priced out. Color me happy about that. Hopefully this review helps you make a decision. I don't think you'll go wrong with this machine.
