I've owned for about one month. I use this for printing, a little scanning and occasional fax.

Set-up was relatively easy on Windows XP. While Ubuntu Linux 9.04 didn't have new enough version of hplip, I was able to download from HP. Ubuntu 9.10 has newer hplip and works "out of the box."

The printer's control panel is straightforward - compared with some of the PhotoSmart models I looked at. Print quality seems good - though I've only printed documents so far. It's a little noisy, but I doubt it's noisier than similar ink jets.

The first one I got was a lemon. It kept giving a message saying, "Alignment Failed." I spent hours on the phone with HP Support in another country - not worth it! Finally, I just returned it to Staples and got another one and now this one works like a charm. DO NOT USE HP Support - English is obviously their second language and is a HUGE barrier. If there are any issues with your machine, just bring it back to Staples within the return period and get another one.

I had no problems installing this unit. It was a little time consuming but for all that it can do it was worth it. One of my main needs for this HP6500 was the fax. After installation the fax worked as I hoped it would. It will receive faxs after my answering machine first excepts the incomming call, if it is a fax the HP6500 wiil take over. All other functions also work great.

Scanner works great for sending attached pdf documents.
Easy to set up. Easy to use.
Has separate ink cartridges for color.
Prints fast and has very good quality for the price.
It has an energy saving mode and has to wake up before it prints--after that it responds faster.
I love the wireless printing and duplex printing!!!

So far I like it. The only cons are scanning looks just alright. The wi-fi crashes my router and HP has not release Windows 7 software and driver yet.
