My son's 17" Dell crashed it after 3 years of use very disappointed, will never buy Dell again and we found this one on sale at Staple. He loves everything about this laptop; said Windows 8 is little challenging in beginning but once you get hang on it you would love it. Skype is preinstalled; he loves that he could watch video on YouTube and browse web at the same time on same screen. He could not download certain games on his old i5 Dell laptop but he downloaded same games on this i3 laptop and plays on bright 17" big screen. This is THE BEST DEAL; I looked every place for same laptop, THANK YOU Staples. We are very pleased with our purchased and looking for same sale again so I could buy one more for me.

adequate laptop, nothing special

Strange thing about the DVD drive button. Couldn't get the drive to open when pushing the button. Called HP and Staples to troubleshoot and after trying all suggestions, brought it back for replacement. ...Read complete review

Strange thing about the DVD drive button. Couldn't get the drive to open when pushing the button. Called HP and Staples to troubleshoot and after trying all suggestions, brought it back for replacement. The manager at Staples also could not get it working. Upon testing the 2nd unit at home, had the same difficulty! Brought the 2nd unit back. The manager again couldn't get it to work. This time he called over another employee. The 2nd employee retried it by only using his fingernail on the button and voila, it worked repeadedly that way. I guess the issue is if you use your fingertip, it also presses the entire drive door in enough to offset the spring release from the button. Bad design!Hope the drive continues to work OK.

        Have use this laptop for a week now and I like it.
        Its fast, quiet, set up was easy. I have concerns with the number pad that you lock it but very time you sign back in you have to lock it again and it has no indication light to tell you its lock. Another thing is the touch pad. Don't like it at all, when you have to use two fingers to move your pages up and down- use a mouse with it its better. As for the Windows 8, I am not loving it at all. You have to go back and forth to get to your pages. Its all different and a lot to get use to. As to the laptop it's a good value, fast. To learn how to use Windows 8 go to you-tube to learn, it really helped me. You can't go wrong with this laptop. Play games, watch movies , good picture quality and very good sound too. I HP for many years, I have own 5 laptops and 2 PC's and only one of the laptops I bought two years ago turn out to be a lemon. So I would recommend Hp to my friends for sure.

          I had not planned on buying from Staples but a friend, a computer guru, who had been a Staples customer for years suggested that we go to the Staples storebecause there was a sale on. As it was late he suggested I call and set up an appointment for the next day. An associate named Martin at the Yuma Arizona said that he would be pleased to see us the next morning and that he was sure that we could find something which would suit me. We went in and as he was busy he suggested that another associate could probably be able to do what he could and so we asked one who was not busy but it was almost like he didn't really want to help us as all he said was that there weren't any of the sale computers left. I spoke to y friend who nsaid that maybe we should speak to Martin and was I glad that we waited because it was he that suggested we go online to see if there was something there that would be satisfactory. Because I was flexible in what I wanted to spend he brought up the HP Pavilion g7 on screen and after reading the specifications I decided that it was the best bang for the buck and purchased it. It is too bad the first young man didn't have the incentive to go the extra distance to make the sale. I am totally happy with my purchase.

          Windows 8 is NOT user friendly. I don't like the fact that tool bars and menus are difficult to find. Apps are TOO difficult to get rid of. What was wrong with clicking on an "x" just to close a program? Dragging the icons to get them off your desktop is a real pain. I prefer Windows 7 applications. This version IS NOT an improvement!
