This is a fine computer for the price I paid. I considered building myself another desktop (something I have done several times in the past) and after pricing a decent unit, I saw this computer on sale and decided that I couldn't match the price, even doing the labor myself. Having said that, there are a few things that I found are not the same as what I would have built myself, examples; a 300W power supply (which may prevent upgrades, or at least require a more robust p.s. be a part of the upgrade) the motherboard is a fairly lower mid grade MSI, although it does have 4 expansion slots and room for 32 GB of memory (which was my first upgrade- and to those like minded, this machine came with a single 8 GB DIMM, even though the sales rep said it would be 2 4 GB DIMMs- and that changed my upgrade path because HP used a Samsung DIMM I couldn't find anywhere and wound up replacing all the memory with a matched set from GSKill, an added expense over what I had planned), last the hardrive is a 5400 rpm Western Digital model which is again a lower value item than I would build with. Having said all that the computer works fine and is fast (even before the memory upgrade) and very quiet. I'm still trying to get used to Windows 8, and not to digress too much, 8 is really an operating system for touch screen computers, not desktops, but it is the next standard so might as well get used to it. I may do some additional upgrades, the video with the AMD 10 really is so good that a video card is probably a waste of money, but I will be installing a Blu-Ray burner in the second optical drive slot and will likely install an SSD drive for the primary and make the provided 1 TB drive the storage drive. That would take full advantage over the high end A10 CPU and 32 GB of memory I've installed and make a pretty smokin machine for well under a $1000.

This is a average desktop computer. It was very easy to set up. It is for my own personal home use so it has more than enough bells & whistles. However it does not have an HDMI connector. I had to buy a monitor. My advise buy a decent monitor. This desktop was a good buy vs. buying a laptop. It really is a speed demon. It has Beats Audio hooked up to external speakers. The sound is great. It has both VGA and DVID connectors. It also lots of USB connectors for printers etc...
All in all a middle of the road computer.

Comments about HP Pavilion p7-1446s Desktop PC:

The level of graphics performance, while not serious gamer level, is very good for the money. As billed, this is a good general media machine with a lot of built-in extras such as wifi, bluetooth, card reader, and Beats sound. The overall HP quality is above average and surprisingly this machine isn't loaded with bloatware. In a year or so, I'll know if this machine is reliable, but for now it's been a good first-run experience, including learning how to make Windows 8 jump through some of my hoops.

Did have an issue with Windows 8 and HP Tech support was right there to help. Unfortunately the Staples 24 hour tech support I was promised when I bought it was misleading, the first year you call HP and when you buy their tech support package you call the local Staples store during business hours, not 24 hours as is implied.

Comments about HP Pavilion p7-1446s Desktop PC:

Coming from a 6 year old XP machine, this is a huge upgrade. Windows 8 was disappointing at first, but after a few days I really like it. I had difficulty setting up my Comcast email account because Windows 8 did not support pop3 email. After a little research, I discovered by updating my Windows APPS, pop3 is now supported.

This machine is very fast and quiet. The AMD A10-5700 CPU is very impressive and much faster than the i5 in my old machine. I also like the fact that you can crossfire this with a discrete GPU.

The integrated High Definition 8 channel Beats Audio works perfect and sounds amazing hooked up to my Logitech surround sound.

This machine is very upgradable and can support up to 32GB of Ram. Eventually I will probably upgrade to 16GB of Ram and add a mid-range Video Card with an HDMI port. I added a HP 2311xi 23" IPS LED Monitor and the video and picture quality is excellent!

This is a great PC for the price. I've been buying HP products for years and I have no regrets.

Comments about HP Pavilion p7-1446s Desktop PC:

I decided to buy this computer after a significant amount of shopping around. I felt this product offered the most bang for the buck as far as mid-range quad core machines go. I understand that this is not a top of the line computer, but it fits the bill for most everything I will throw at it. I am a graphic designer by trade, so I needed something with good graphics capabilities that had lots of processing power. I also needed something that could handle audio production duties as well. This machine delivers in spades. I was initially worried about the Windows 8 interface, but after a couple days I found that I had adjusted quite nicely. I have had the computer for about a week now and I love it. I still have an 8 year old HP laptop that while not as fast as today's laptops, still works like a charm. I was not the least bit hesitant to buy another HP computer. In fact, I am so impressed by my old laptop's refusal to die and the build quality of this new machine, HP is my "go to" brand for all my computer related purchases.

Since your exact model Dell screen is not listed, it is impossible to say for sure whether it will work with this desktop. However, screens that were made 6 years ago were typically either CRT monitors or flat screens, which practically all desktops have inputs for, so you should have no problem using your monitor with this desktop.

The Staples model comes with Windows 8. I transferred my hard disk with Windows 7 64bit on it and booted from that. You will need to tweak the bios and turn off Windows 8 security features in order to do this. Then you will have to search the internet for Windows 7 drivers. Be sure to download all the HP drivers (for Windows 8) and install as many as you can, particularly the network drivers. It took a lot of effort, but I now have the machine running in Windows 7 64bit.

            A:

As with any new program upgrades there will be a period of time that the old version, Windows 7, will still be available; however, Staples can only provide the products that the manufacturers are supplying.

In addition, with any new operating system, there will be bugs that need to be worked out before the program is perfected. I am confident that these bugs will be worked out prior to the computer manufacturers converting all their new computers to the new Windows 8 operating system.

If you have any specific feedback on the Windows 8 operating system, please contact Microsoft directly as I am sure they are welcoming any and all feedback in order to make any necessary improvments to their new operating system. For your convenience, I have included their contact information: Microsoft 800-426-9400 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx
