I bought this drive as a means of both backing up files and transferring files between work and home.

Initially, the drive seemed to work just fine. However, after transferring about 500 JPEGS for a project, I noticed that 10 (~2%) corrupted. I checked the source files on my work PC, and they were fine.

I reformatted the drive (NTFS) and tried the transfer again. Upon checking, I found that I was still hovering around the 2% corruption rate (different files were corrupt this time).

Thinking it might be my PC, I reformatted the drive (again), copied my files to a server, and copying them to the drive from another PC. End result: ~2% failure rate.

I repeated everything above with a smaller SanDisk Cruzer and a Verbatim Store 'N Go, and the transfers were seamless, with no corruptions.

It's possible I just got a bad drive, so I'm taking it back today. I'll post my updated results as they become available.

Also, for all the people commenting that the drive does not contain 16 GB of storage, there's a subtle point (which I don't care for) that you're missing.

The advertised number (say 16 GB) is in decimal (16,000,000,000 bytes).

Your computer wills how the number based on the binary definition of a gigabyte (1024 x 1024x 1024 bytes, or 1,073,741,824 bytes).

If there are 16,000,000,000 bytes and the computer recognizes 1,073,741,824 bytes as a GB, then your computer will see 16,000,000,000 / 1,073,741,824 GB, or ~ 14.9 GB.

Based on this, expect the following when considering drive pruchases:

MB Level = 95.6 % of listed MB
GB Level = 93.1 % of listed GB
TB Level = 90.9 % of listed TB

Using it as a backup for personal files and as a means of transferring files from/to other systems. It's always in my pocket and readily available for use no matter where I am as long as the computer has a USB interface. No special software required.

Comments about PNY HP V125w 16GB USB Drive:

I chose this product due to the capacity and the brand name. I was mistaken, as the warranty is the shortest in the industry (2 years) and the transfer speeds are atrocious.

I would not recommend these drives for anyone other that someone who does overnight backups. They are too slow for anything else. Read speeds are fine, it's the write speed you have to worry about.

Check your favorite search engine for reviews and speed ratings. You'll see what I mean.

I am returning mine and will check reviews before I purchase something in the future.
