In the past, we have purchased more expensive, higher end computers. Our experience proved that the higher end computers seemed to fail just as often as the less expensive computers. This time around, we decided to give the more affordable HP a try and just replace it in a couple years, or if we experienced a major failure rather than getting it repaired. We originally bought two of these laptops as Christmas gifts for our children. For the price we paid and for the personal home/student use thay are used for, this is a great computer. Has the CD/DVD drive, enough USB ports, SD card reader, web cam, wireless capabilities, HDMI port, etc. It's a little slower to boot up than my higher end Dell but it cost about a third as much. The keyboard gives the computer a solid feel, and we like the feel of the textured mouse pad. The display is beautiful for such an affordable computer. We like it's so much that we just bought a third one for my wife. Shortly after doing so, one of the first two HP's incurred a hard drive failure at only 2 months old. While I was disappointed that the hard drive failed, I realize that HP doesn't make the hard drive so it isn't necessarily their fault. I ended up calling HP on a Sunday night to file a waranty claim and actually spoke to a customer service agent. Of course it wasn't the same time in the country where my call was received. Regardless, the agent walked me through diagnostics and determined the hard drive had failed. HP honored their warranty and is sending me a postage paid box to ship the unit to them to be repaired. Depite the hard drive failure, which also happened to one of our older Dells, I would recommend the laptop because of the way HP handled the warranty claim. It's a great computer for the money we spent, and our other two HP laptops have worked flawlessly, without an issue.

I have a work laptop from my job but I wanted to buy a personal laptop for school and other personal business. I did some research and didn't want to spend too much. For the specs, this was the best deal I found! I was excited to purchase this laptop. I took it home and gave it a test drive. I went to multiple websites, looked at the settings, and instantly fell for this laptop. Once I saw everything in working order, I started to install my software - Mcafee, MS Office, Firefox, etc. The laptop was working great and doing everything I needed it to do. I shut it down for a few hours. When I restarted it, I noticed that some of the keys on the keyboard were acting strangly. I would hit the "t" and it was output "t5" on the screen. I would hit the "y" and it would output "y6" on the screen. It did this for at least 6 different keys on the keyboard! I tried rebooting, booting to the last known good configuration, and verifying the keyboard settings. It still didn't work properly. Then the wifi died on me. This all occurred on the first day of my purchase! I'm happy the defects came to light so soon so I was able to take it back to Staples to get a full refund but I'm sad that it didn't work out because for this laptop offers a lot for the price.I'm giving it another shot. Instead of exchanging it at the Staples I purchased it at with the pushy sales people (trying to sell me software and warranties), I purchased it from [@] so I didn't have to wait 8+ weeks for the $50 mail-in rebate. I asked Staples to match the price because [@]didn't require a rebate but they refused to match the price because they said the price would be the same once I received the rebate in 8+ weeks. No thanks, I'll go with [@] and hopefully I won't get a lemon this time!
I bought this computer primarily for the purpose of internet research, record keeping, editing photos and creating my website. The computer is pretty quick - there's not much of a lag time between clicking an icon or link and having it actually fully open. The picture quality is clear and the computer is easy to use. The battery lasts for hours!
good lap-top. Too bad the Staples staff did everything in their power to get me not to buy it. As I was paying for it, they tried to scare me out of my purchase by raising their voices so everyone could hear, saying that the computer break down rate was three out of four. What kind of store doesn't want to sell a product. That's the last staples will get my "sell". P.S. why does this review think I'm rating a printer?

Q:
Does this computer come with any software like "Office"
This laptop has no USB 3.0 ports, but does have three USB 2.0 ports. While you can connect USB 3.0 devices to those ports, they'll operate at USB 2.0 speed.

Q:
Is the RAM upgadeable(from 4 to 6, for example)? How many memory ports are there?
The HP G6 is fast, it comes with an AMD Dual-Core A4-3305M Accelerated Processor2. The speed is 2.5GHz, this ranks pretty high by today's standards. If you want to make quality movies the video camera probably is more important than the computer.

Q:
Can I plug in an external monitor and will the graphics card and software drive 2 screens?
Asked on 3/12/2012 by Uncle Willie from Salmon, ID
This laptop can connect to an external display using either VGA or HDMI. A function key allows you to select which displays are active. The same screen will be shown on all active display devices.
