Main reason for purchase was to use with netbook while traveling to watch movies and burn vacation photos onto cd's/dvd's. I travel across the globe and am sometimes in a plane for 13-14 hours at a time and can watch movies of my choice and not those of the airlines. I decided I needed one the last time the media center where I was seated was not functioning at all.
