I ordered this product because it was listed with the 49A toners as just being longer lasting.

I go through several of these per month and they've always performed well. I make only legal prints on this so I understandably am getting less than 6000 copies per cartridge. The price on these has steadily crept un over the years to the point I've actually considered non-hp versions but I was disappointed once many years ago by the staples equivalent. It was of lower print quality and the yield on it was nothing short of a joke. I've seen plenty of off brand versions online but frankly the prices look too low to believe.

              HP keep raising their toner price. I guess they live off from it. Personally I don't use recycled toner because they leaks and leaves dark lines down the page. So I guess we just have to pay up.

                Is it normal for this product to print darker than the 49A?

                • A:

                  Both the 49A and the 49X use identical toner. They only differ in total toner capacity. Darker output can result from changes in printer settings, either on the printer or in the software print driver preferences. Another possible explanation is that lighter print is a sign of a cartridge low on toner. The last hundred sheets from an emptied cartridge will be much lighter than the first hundred pages a full cartridge. Given two new, full cartridges, a 49A should produce output just as dark as a 49X.
