        I'm still on USB 2.0, so I don't know its full capacity, but I've been very pleased thus far by its speed. Much faster than the one I had previously. The software was simple to set up and it backed up about 200 GB of data in a few hours. Is operating very smoothly. I haven't had it for very long, so I can't speak to longevity. In every other measure it has lived up to expectations from the good reviews I read prior to purchase.

        I had a portable hard drive before that was difficult to use so I didn't. When my computer crashed and I LOST everything, was determined this will not happen again. This system is so easy to use and I can store more than I will ever be able to use. I love it.

            This item is a storage drive, which allows you to back up and save files from your PC or laptop. It is easy to carry and can be plugged into any trusted computer.

            The first question "Can I use this external drive to run several programs as if it were running off my C Drive in my desk top PC" is a LITTLE complicated. Drives do not "run" programs -- drives only store programs and data. You can configure your computer to store most programs and data on ANY drive that is connected to the computer. This may be easy or somewhat difficult depending on your operating system and each specific program.

            Your second question: "Can I use this external drive to run several programs if I choose to just carry the drive and plug into other pc's?" is MUCH MORE COMPLICATED. Most significant programs written for Windows are not capable of being run as a stand-alone program. They need to be installed on the computer and will not run properly without entires in the "Registry". You cannot just plug in an external drive and run such programs.

            The bottom line is if you had to ask the question, you would need help from someone to set up any programs on the drive.
