I bought this so I could listen to books on tape while working or before going to sleep and it works well for this purpose.
Originally, I was looking for an upright cd player that would take up less table-top space but couldn't find one so settled on this one. It's pretty big since the disc lays flat, do upright models even exist?
There is no plug for a headphone and I didn't know this when I bought it. I figured everything comes with a headphone plug these days.
The display is way, WAY too bright and since my radio sits bedside I have to cover it with a tissue so it doesn't shine in my eyes. I can still read the display through a two-ply Kleenex but it does dull the brightness.
It was complicated to set so I did have to read the directions and learn the buttons for the cd player. I keep the directions close in case I want to learn how to use the sleep mode with the radio.
It doesn't have a memory on the cd player so if I stop the cd it starts from the beginning again. That's a pain when listening to books on tape. I keep it on pause which means it's always on.
My AM radio comes in and sounds fine, haven't tried fm, don't listen to FM.
The only reason I would recommend this is because of the price. If I had $500 to spend I would have gotten a Bose as I have one in another room and it's awesome.

Ok battery backup good, No controls over the brightness, can't sleep with the radio on and expect the alarm to go off in the morning. It's either wake to alarm and sleep with no radio or sleep with radio on and wake to radio.
Alarm off buttons are to small and mixed with alot of other buttons. Which makes it hard to find it when you wake up.

I have purchased and owned Jensen products for nearly 70 years and have Jensen speakers in my current home entertainment system. The sound of this radio is not Jensen quality. The high pitched sound is not pleasant to go to sleep by or to wake up by. I was very disappointed.
