  • Q:

in response to your question back to me, I would be using a smart phone
    Asked on 1/4/2013 by Anonymous

    • A:

Most smart phones use the wifi standard 802.11b/g/n. The WUMC710 supports 802.11ac and is backwards compatible with 802.11a/n. So, if your particular smartphone supports the "n" standard (5ghz), then it would be able to connect to the LINKSYS media bridge. You might consider the Netgear WN2000RPT, which is 802.11b/g/n compliant. It would give you better smartphone connectivity and support your desired range and connectivity.

  • Q:

will this item work with the tethering concept?

What would you be tethering it with? This is a bridge and requires an access point.

  • Q:

We currently run two internet services ~200' apart -- just far enough apart that we can't run everything off one gigabit router. We have Cat-6 cable running between the locations. Could we use this to at one end and the gigabit router at the other to pare down to one service?

    • A:

Another option would be to add a switch in the middle fed by your cat 6 cable. adding the switch will increase the range of your wired network. Then connect this device to the switch and get rid of your second internet connection.

    • A:

No, you would need an Access Point. Most consumer bridges will not allow you to reconfigure them to be access points. This takes in a wireless network, and gives up to four devices wired connectivity.

      A:

Depending on the signal strength of the router that you currently use, you may be able to use this bridge to provide WIFI to reach the intended area. You may wish to speak with the manufacturer, Cisco, to ensure compatibility and that this product will work for your needs. For your convenience, I have included the contact information for Cisco:
