Love to look at it; hate to sit in it

Comments about Lane® for Staples Black Tech Executive Chair:

I absolutely love the style and look of this chair. It's hot! The look attracted me to it and it seemed comfortable enough when I sat in it at the store. But as soon as I got it back to the office and sat in it for awhile, I realized I had made a big mistake. It made my back and neck tense up because there is no adjustable lumbar and the back sits up too straight (you can't adjust that either). I now sit in a chair for 8 hours a day uncomfortable with a headache and neck ache. I want to be comfortable at my desk, not focused on the chair and endlessly attempting to adjust how I'm sitting in order to get comfortable. Needless to say, I'm bummed. But to each their own and I guess this one just didn't fit me.

Stylish chair, shoddy Quality Control

Comments about Lane® for Staples Black Tech Executive Chair:

This Lane chair looks very stylish, something you see in a racing car. However, the nice ends there. The quality control on this chair is horrendous. Spent 2 hours total trying to get this chair assembled. The screw holes in the Back Cushions did not align properly with the arm rest thus where the bulk of the 2 hours was spent. The manual was useless at this point since it applies IF the screw holes were aligned properly.Eventually we got this chair assembled and the screws in the screw holes, but after 3 hours of use, the screw popped out of the hole. It stripped. [...] For the price I paid, I thought this process would be smooth, but apparently not.

Nightmare Waiting To Happen

Comments about Lane® for Staples Black Tech Executive Chair:

I was wary after reading the negative reviews about this chair, and I have found each and every one of them to be true. This chair is a nightmare waiting to happen and should be avoided at all costs. Opening the box at first glance, everything is well organized and packed well. Alot of people have complained that this is a tough build, but I found it very simple to put together. All it takes are 12 screws that are pre-sorted and pre-labeled in a package for you along with very clear, detailed, and well illustrated directions as to where they all go. However, I did in fact have difficulty with the screws. I didn't have a problem getting them to line up properly, and they went in fine. The problem was that the screws wouldn't catch. They just spin around and never get totally tight as if they were stripped, making the entire chair rickety and creaky because the arms are what supports the larger, heavier back piece. Also after unpacking it and getting into the actual building of the chair, when holding all of the individual parts by themselves for the first time outside of the showroom you really get see what everything is made of. That's where things start getting ugly. The "Mystic" arm pieces are misrepresented. They are advertised as "chrome", which will give most people the impression that they are metal; And if you were to pick up the chair and feel the weight of it, you might assume so as the chair weighs 54 lbs. However, the arm pieces are in fact pieces of plastic with a silver spraypaint coating. The same can be said for the wheel base, which is also just heavy plastic covered with spraypaint. The only pieces that are really chrome are the car-type headrest sliders in the top of the chair; which, subsequently, were rusty when I opened the box.The carbon fiber accents, as you might guess, are not really made of carbon fiber. They are plastic inserts with a carbon fiber paintjob. Although not real, they do serve as an attractive way to cover up the screw holes between the seat and back of the chair, and add to the chairs racy look. But that's only when they actually decide to stay in place. The larger ones frequently pop out of place all by themselves and I have since just given up on trying to fit them in there. The vinyl that the chair is covered with is very low quality and as another reviewer has said, has a horrible chemical smell that doesn't go away. After a couple of weeks casually being bumped into the wall when I would get up, the vinyl has started wearing away and has created permanent pits in the rear of the headrest.Barely a month into sitting on this chair, the foam cushioning started compressing. At first it felt firm and supportive, but the seat area began sagging almost instantly. Soon after that, I started having pain in my back which I thought was just the cushion seams, but it was the wooden skeleton in the center back area pushing up against my spine. Sitting down, I now sink right to the bottom and feel the wood base, and feel the wood in the back area pressing into my back. It's now just too uncomfortable to be in for long periods of time. And for those who are interested, I am a tall thin person who fits very well in this chair; however friends of mine who are shorter have an issue getting their feet to sit flat on the ground, even at its lowest setting. Other nuisances include the gas lift cannister; which although it does function properly, makes this thudding popping noise anytime you recline in the chair. The silver spraypaint chips, flakes, and scratches off very easily revealing a dark matte plastic underneath which gives off the impression that these parts were just repaints of the previous Tech Chair model which was a navy blue color. And most recently, a side of one of the caster wheels popped off while rolling the chair, and now refuses to stay on. I cannot get ahold of either Lane nor Staples to get a replacement part.Considering the extremely poor materials and build quality of this chair, it is not in any way worth [$]. It is not even worth half that much on sale, and with a coupon code. It is a chair made of cheap vinyl and plastic with a price tag of one made of leather and steel. And even though all of the problems started happening early on, I held on to it because I could deal with creaky screws and cheap plastic parts, as the looks of this chair alone seemed to outweigh them. But since the foam is basically worn out, have physical damage to the vinyl, have paint scratches and only 4 wheels, I can no longer return the chair since it is past the 30 day return period. There's really no excuse for this much failure, especially when you're paying that much for a chair that ultimately only looks good, but instantly falls apart. On a personal note, although this chair looks great, I do have some complaints about it. I don't like the color scheme and contrast stitching at all. I understand it's supposed to make it look racy, but would love it if Lane would offer this chair in all black (black material, black stitching, black "Mystic" parts, etc), all with improved quality materials. Since this chair is going south already, I plan to just modify this chair to get it that way. Overall, no one should have to deal with all the faults and problems this chair comes with, especially for that kind of pricetag. If I could give this chair 0 stars, I would. It is junk and should be avoided.

Comments about Lane® for Staples Black Tech Executive Chair:

I bought this after dealing with a junky garage sale computer chair. I use the chair anywhere from 5 to 12 hours a day for my computer and gaming system. And so far this chair has performed superbly. I had a faulty caster (had a preexisting crack that broke when I sat in i) when I first assembled the chair it but it was replaced. All in all, a good chair that I didn't mind spending the extra money on.

Comments about Lane® for Staples Black Tech Executive Chair:

I'm good with tools and assembly-required furniture doesn't scare me, but this was an absolute uh, bear to put together. The first one I got, one bolt socket on the seat back did not line up correctly and the bolt was ruined by cross-threading. The second one I managed to get together, but again had trouble with one of the seat-back bolts. Next time I'll pay the assembly fee -- it was under ten bucks, if memory serves, and half an hour in I'd have gladly paid twenty to have someone else do it.

That said, it's gorgeous and the most comfortable chair for my body that Staples had in the store. I'm 5'10" and long-waisted; not many chairs fit me well.

Comments about Lane® for Staples Black Tech Executive Chair:

I just got this chair two days ago but it has already won me over. It resembles a seat in a race car and wraps around you when you sit down. The built-in lumbar support is just right and I love the adjustable headrest. It was very easy to put together. I would reccomend though, that you have someone help you as it is difficult to squish the padding in so that you can get to the screw hole, hold the arm up and srew the srew in all by yourself.

The only thing I didn't like about the chair was that I didn't have a color choice. It only came in red trim but that is minor compared to the comfort of this chair.
