I thought I did my homework when I needed a replacement printer on short notice and decided on the Lexmark C543DN - but I failed to place enough weight on other's comments that it had high toner usage. That was an EXTREME UNDERSTATEMENT! I have a newsletter I print periodically at my expense for a ministry which with my older printer took, at most, 1.5 toner cartridges (per color - 5k pages per cartridge) with each newsletter. This printer has eaten through FOUR cartridges per color (2k pages per color) and I'm still not done! At this rate the newsletter will cost three times as much than with the old printer! DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER UNLESS ALL YOU DO IS PRINT OCCASIONALLY! I wish I could show you the mountain of empty cartridges I have by my desk!

I bought this printer, literally this afternoon on sale for a great price. Saved $100 on the printer and it prints better and is faster than its big name competitor. Hooked it up and loaded the drivers on CD. One thing, I had to go online to Lexmark to get the Windows 7 driver.. If you do not, the CD just has the Universal driver which prints really slow and does not access all the talents, duplexing of the printer. So, get the Windows 7 or VISTA driver so you can see what this printer can really do! Awesome. Really, really fast..even with color. Secret is...make sure you get the right printer driver from Lexmark for your printer. One thing that wasn't mentioned is that it can run USB (has port in back with a sticker over it..look carefully); wired network; or wireless option.

I have not had any problem from the machine except: Mine is a duplex (prints both sides) it will print one side then pull the sheet back in and print the other.. if you have heavy paper like card stock or business cards it will jam while flipping the page to print the second side.

This machine is fast and easy to use, but the toner consumption is a killer. I printed 485 text pages after installing a black cartridge (rated 2000+) before "toner low" warnings appeared. Unfortunately I bought two of these for a small non-profit organization. This machine is a mistake for anything but an occasional user.

Loading paper is not as easy as other printers I have used. The tray must be pulled out in its entirety to unload and reload different sizes. I do love the ability to chat online with a technician. The one time I had a problem, the tech talked me through the fix in minutes.
