Our family needs a new, reliable printer. We print a lot, so do my wife and two crazy kids(2000 pages a year). Our last one was HP 4050TN just the same one as my workplace printer. My kids destroyed it after 10 years of service.

After extensive research, I found this Lexmark E260DN. I love the high processing power and the built-in RAM. Other printers at this price would have a slow processor with 8MB RAM. My new printer shoots out pages so much faster than my previous enterprise oriented network printer.

And the prints are crispy clear, super vivid.

The set up was so easy. I am a network engineer. But my mental energy is reserved for work place. I hate to use any more brain power at home. I have seen so many printers with awful setup procedures. My new Lexmark 260 suprised me with easy TCP/IP set up. In two minutes, all of my family's computers can access it through the network.

My old HP 4050TN uses one toner cartrige in 3 to 5 years with a high yield toner. This new thing has a very small toner cartrige. I suspect that I have to buy more cartriges, one in a few months?

I bought this laser printer to replace a Brother printer to print programs for a youth orchestra. I wish I hadn't. I only printed out about 40 programs (20 pages each, duplexed - 10 pieces of paper) before the toner light came on and started streaking the advertisements. Lexmark makes it difficult to replenish the toner without buying a replacement cartridge.

As far as speed goes, there's no way this printer even comes close to the speed it boasts. It prints a page, delays a second or two, then prints another page. Not my idea of a speedy printer.

Steer clear from this printer.

You'll read other comments about the rate of toner usage and those notes don't go far eought to explain the usage rate-IT'S HIGH! A new full toner cartridge, printing normal text pages, may last only 1500 pages or less. Toner is expensive.Quality is another concern. After only three months of noraml usage( two toner cartridges )or about 2500 pages the printer pickup paper feed failed. [...]Their tech support identified the problem but claimed the parts were no under warranty because the paper feed was considered a consumable and as such not covered under the warranty. [...]The printer was only three months old at the time of the problem.

Friend suggested getting a MICR toner cartridge from checksnet so I could make my own checks and save $$$. Aside from printing checks, I find that the MICR cartridges last longer as a bunch of regular toner cartridges because the MICR toner is darker so I lower printer darkness setting to 3 (on 1 to 10 scale). This saves me even more $$$$.

Whether it is the Kids or my wife or my own use, this workhorse just keeps pumping out the pages. The one time I thought I was having a printer problem, it turned out to be an operator problem...had to replenish paper..duh.

I have other Lexmark printers that print much faster such as the E534dtn, but they cost more money and this printer has more than an acceptable print speed; the only thing that missing from it and that I'd like to see is the multi-function purpose feeder.

The printer was great, with the exception of the bypass tray. The tray pulls out, but you there is nothing for the paper to rest on, especially for legal paper. Unfortunately, I had to return and get another printer.

I would recommend if you don't print checks or letterhead items or legal size often.
