Great printer

The X264dnw is a great professional printer that does the job of one of those "bigger expensive" printers. Nice, compact size. Print quality is fabulous. Set up was not complicated. I called Lexmark and they set it up on my Mac and my PC. If you are looking for an affordable, multi-function laser monochrome printer with simplex scanning and copying, & duplex printing this is for you. I got it on sale which made it even better. But be warned that the scan to Word document feature does not work on Macs and the scan to email feature does not work with emails that require SSL (aol, gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc) but it does work on office servers. So if you need that feature for at home you have to get a more advanced model. This is something that should be stated in the description. It is a little louder than I thought it would be but it does have a quiet mode and a power save mode. The warm up takes a little longer than I thought as well, however it is not a drawback because all printers take a bit to warm up. If you can get this printer on sale it's worth it. The wireless set up was easy also. I had bought an HP Officejet 8500A Premium (their top of the line All-in-one Inkjet) and returned it for this one. The wireless feature could not be set up at all after 2 hrs on the phone with HP. It took the Lexmark ten minutes to set it up! Lexmark tech support is phenomenal and the warranty on the printer is great too.

This machine was very hard to set up. You would think it would be as easy pushing fax or copy but it isnt. Took my IT person two hours to get everything set up and ready to go. My last machine was much less complicated. But this one does hold more paper which is nice, and the print quality is good. It doesnt come with a manual which is a pain. Every time I fax it prints a fax log and I have no idea how to shut that off. It is a waste of paper.

This printer is great that it can do a lot of work. But it is a little slow to start other jobs than printing. The default print is 2-sided, which saved a lot of paper, but sometimes it gets annoying if forgets set it on 1-side print. The outside feeder can only feed 1 page at a time. Unlike our old printer that can feed approx. 15 pages each time.
But overall, it is a good product.

Spend little more and get x364. You can copy both sides of the document. This is the only big difference between 264 and 364. Duplex scanning its a big plus.

I am retired, yet continue to consult, so this machine was to be used for both personal & business.
Buying this machine was a huge mistake on my part. I did not do any research about buying something like this, because I expected to buy a one-function copy machine. No way to do that, so to find what I could buy instead, I talked with a helpful person at Staples and ended up buying this Lexmark 4 function machine.
My mech. engineer husband got it unpacked, etc. and quickly realized we should pay an expert to install. The expert spent four hours to install it - costing us $160. A friend later told me she has a different brand and it took her 15 minutes to install that brand.
The copier and the scanner worked after the Lexmark was installed. There was no way to check the fax at that time. I never tried printer, because we already have two and did not want or need one. However, I had to buy printer to get a copy machine (sigh).
The first time I tried the fax machine, it refused to shake hands with the fax machine to which it was sending my fax. I tried faxing to this number repeatedly. I could hear their signal, but no signal came from my machine. I then called Lexmark and talked with a helpful and extremely patient tech.
He spent at least two hours trying to get my fax machine to fax and had no luck. After all the time wasted on this machine, I just wanted to get rid of the machine. So the Lexmark tech waited on on the phone while I used our other phone line to call Staples. I got a lovely and very helpful Staples person who helped me send it back.
I'm so very glad it's gone!
Now I will do the research I need to do to buy the best product I can find.

  As per the manufacture Lexmark at (800) 539-6275, this laser printer has compact 4-in-1 monochrome MFP with duplex printing, great for small workgroups. This printer is capable of duplex (2-sided) printing from a computer, however it is not compatible to do two sided copying on the document feeder.

  This model has both ethernet and USB 2.0 connectivity. The USB cable is used for a local connection (i.e. printer to one computer), whlle the ethernet cable allows a network connection. The printer does not come with a USB cable. The Lexmark site has online manual, publications and instructions for supporting this model.
