I bought the Linksys AC1900 (EA6900) as an upgrade to the EA4500 (a fine product). The EA6900 was very easy to install and setup. The best part however is the improved coverage AND increased speed! We have a large home and the access point and router are upstairs in a closet. The prior router (with a range extender) did an OK job but I still had dead spots around the house and the average download speed was much less than the rated speed from my ISP. The EA6900 appears to have solved both issues (so far)! With the three adjustable antennae, I now have no more dead spots and have unplugged the range extender. Better than that, my average download speed has almost doubled! This was definitely worth the investment.

I purchased this router a few months back because it was one of the best the local staples carried. Role forward a few months and we find the upper 5GHz band stopped working and the lower band is dropping packets. I stopped by the local Staples, they still recomened it, but it was outside their 14 exchange window, so I contacted Linksys help / support who told me to upgrade the firmware. To which I responded that there was not upgrade available (I had already checked), to which they replied, oh well, you are just out side your 90 window for free service, but we fixed and issue just like this earlier today. we can do the same for you or $29.00 with a 14 day refund option or $39.00 for a six month period.

To be honest, I really did not give them a chance / crack at any additional money. I found the statement / policy a tad insulting.

In my experience it was a good router, it was easy to configure and worked fairly well for a few months. The down side is it has the life span of a Mayfly. (Very short). If it breaks down you can talk to the nice folks and have them offer to fix it (maybe) if you are willing to spend just a little more money on it even though you are well within the one year (limited) warranty period on the router.

    Nice Router with good features

Comments about Linksys AC1900 Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6900:

OK. There're probably few things drier or uninteresting than the workings of a tech item that operates best when you don't have to think about it at all ... but if you want that to be the case with your new router, it actually makes sense to suss out a product that you can set up once, and then forget about.

My previous wireless-N router from Linksys died after 6+ years of solid performance, so I was comfortable sticking with another product from the company. This router is a nice build, and once it was set up and talking to my cable modem, it's range and signal are excellent ... significantly better than the older model I had been using. (My networking hub is in the front of my house in the basement ... the main signal reaches all the way to the back of the second floor now. I have a separate signal extender, but it's only slightly stronger than the main signal now. A big plus.)

Setup was a little peculiar, somewhat due to my own desire to jump right in and use my own settings, and somewhat due to a tiny missing piece of information that could have saved me a couple of lengthy tech support calls right out of the box.

First and foremost, don't do what I did (skipping the automatic setup option). Tweaking settings after the auto-installation is simple and straight forward ... and bypassing the auto-setup only caused a few problems and I needed to start over anyway.

Secondly, it is essential that you have the ability of completely powering down your *modem* in order to allow the new router to set up and connect correctly. If you are on cable modem that is tied to your phone and cable (like I am), this will take an extra step beyond even unplugging the modem. (Any "triple play" type package is likely to have battery backup that will keep the modem on for a while ... longer than you'll want to wait. A very quick automated call to my cable providor let me request a restart of the modem, and it was off and back on in just a few minutes.)

Once my modem had been reset, The router connected right up. I renamed the both of the dual bands (AND the very nice "guest" network) and set up my own passwords. And that was it.

There is also a free app for phones and tablets that will also let you monitor and change settings on the router. Definitely work the download.

Bottom line: At under $150 (using a flyer coupon), this was an excellent, feature packed value. Recommended.

Comments about Linksys AC1900 Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6900:

There is one thing that is kind of deceiving AC1900. There is only 1300Mbps for the AC 5Ghz and 600Mbps for N 2.4Ghz. Which I did not realized and most devices only work on the N band. To access the AC band you have to band a media connector. But after all that works great very good speed.

    Linksys AC1900 Dual Band Router

Comments about Linksys AC1900 Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6900:

Until we got this new router we did not get complete coverage in our home/business once we added an addition. It was frustrating to loose connection. This new router not only gave us complete coverage in our new 3800 sq foot space but it was easy to hook up. The directions were easy to read and follow. We have always liked Linksys products and have always had good luck with the quality.
When we bought it we were able to use our Staples points and it made it much more affordable.
We depended on the knowledge of the Staples worker who suggested this product.

    Great Product and Outstanding Help

Comments about Linksys AC1900 Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6900:

To start off...this is my first router. The Staples lady was great. She listened to my needs and pointed me in the right direction. Her favorite router was out of stock and needed to be ordered, so I settled for her next choice. I would not have picked the correct router without her. For someone who has never set one up before, it was very easy to installed and is working great. Thank you for your help Staples on Boston Road (wish I remembered the employees name, because she deserves recognition), just wish the cable company was as easy to deal with.

    Unreliable WiFi Connection

    By Ed

    from Irvine, CA

    Verified Buyer

Comments about Linksys AC1900 Dual Band Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6900:

While the wired connection works fine and the wifi range is better than the standard types, the wifi itself often quits transmitting for no reason (sometimes 2x per hour or 3x per hour). Setup is not as easy as the outside box says, it requires a little bit more involvement. Luckily there are some help out there on the internet forums.
Range-wise, its about double than the 600 series of any brand but once it hits a wall with metal beams/re-bars inside, the signal gets interrupted - I suppose this will be true for any brand. Having a range extender helps, but with the intermittent wifi going out, the router becomes an unreliable device. For now, I'm back to the 600 series of another brand until support can figure out the cause of intermittent outages.
Note: if you have multiple Linksys/Cisco, you cannot use the 192.168.1.1 on the manual using wifi, you have to connect hard wire and turn off your device's wifi. That way you know you are connected to the router you want to work with for manual configuration.
