My wireless all in one in my home office on the 2nd floor (right front)had stopped scanning, but it was still printing. I had tried everything, spent hours uninstalling, reinstalling & everything. Our wireless router was on the 3rd floor left rear of the house. We also were experiencing a tough time running wireless on our smart phones. We went into Staples & explained what was happening to one of the associates. He asked if we had an N300 & explained that with all the tech growth, it should be an N600 & maybe even a booster. We had no idea what we had & said we'd go home & check. We only had an N150! So I went back the next day & realized then there were 2 N600's. One said it was a smart router (of course it cost more). While I was trying to figure out the difference, & was the "smarter" 1 better, & why did things have to be so difficult, an associate, Chris, came over & explained & said with our set up the smart router would probably be better because it would zero in on my all in one vs just throwing the signal out & hoping it found its way.
Brought it home & the instructions were very easy to follow. I customized it to find all our devices - 2 smart phones, 1 all in one, & an Apple tv. Went down to my office, pushed a couple buttons on my all in one, checked on my computer & it said it was ready to rock & roll. Tested a scan & I was back in business! Thank You Staples!

A little background...

I have over a decade of experience configuring various routers.

All my comments are based on Ethernet, as I had the WiFi turned off because I don't use it in my business.

If I plug a gigabit computer directly into my comcast modem, and run speedtest.net, I get between 105 and 121 Mbps download speed.

I used a Linksys WRT54G before the EA2700 and the LAN speed was consistently in the 40's for download which is about right for that era router.

After replacing the Linksys WRT54G with the Linksys EA22700 I had the following problems:

1. The WAN to LAN speed varied from 105 to 57 to 49 to 29 Mbps, randomly.

2. The DNS server didn't work all the time. It did work some of the time. Intermittent.

3. Sometimes the router would not connect to the modem. The Router's WAN was set for DHCP so it should have connected to the modem immediately. Intermittent.

4. I use static IP's on my computers and printers. It wouldn't connect to some of them some of the time. When set to DHCP, they would usually but not always connect. Inconsistent. However there should be no difference. IOW, this made no sense at all.

Linksys support is courteous. However for the amount of time I spent on tech support and customer support with Linksys, I probably would have been better off to have tossed the router into the trash and bought something else.

After all the problems I had with this router, I needed to get my business back online, so I replaced it with the router that it had replaced, the old Linksys WRT54G, which immedidately worked perfectly, although with lower WAN to LAN throughput, of coure, and with the 100 Mbps 4-port switch instead of the EA2700's Gigabit 4-port switch, of course. Rock solid.

After 4 long phone calls to Linksys over serveral days, they agreed that the unit was defective and gave me an RMA to get it replaced.

I'll report on the replacement unit when it arrives and I have a chance to thoroughly test it.

Comments about Linksys EA2700 App-Enabled N600 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router with Gigabit:

I've purchased two of these routers for different homes. It can handle my family's entire assortment of wired and wireless devices without issue. Gaming PCs, consoles, computers, tablets and smart phones. I never experience any sort of latency even when others are streaming movies in another room. It's a great price for a lot of speed.

Comments about Linksys EA2700 App-Enabled N600 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router with Gigabit:

Wouldn't recommend this router. Wish we had gone with a pricier one. Perhaps you do end up "getting what you pay for." Others had recommended a more expensive model at another store, but we opted for this one due to the price and convenience. Wish we had gone elsewhere.

Does not talk to old WPS systems

Comments about Linksys EA2700 App-Enabled N600 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router with Gigabit:

It attached to the old system ok, but it will not talk to the buttons on the WPS systems. I have an old single 150 router extension and it will not recognize the router. I went on the software tools and it can't see the router when I push the WPS button. Everything else is ok.
