    Gigabit Adapters Netgear vs. Linksys

    The Netgear Gigabit Adapter didn't work on my PC. However, my PC is an older model. The Netgear didn't work because Windows couldn't load in the driver. I run Windows XP Home Edition....Read complete review

    The Netgear Gigabit Adapter didn't work on my PC. However, my PC is an older model. The Netgear didn't work because Windows couldn't load in the driver. I run Windows XP Home Edition. I then chose The Linksys which I thought would work because it has Plug and Play and Wake on LAN. The Linksys Adapter went in with no problems. Although, it is a little more expensive than the Netgear Adapter I am sticking with the Linksys. It is worth the extra couple of dollars [...] compared to the Netgear Adapter. In my case, Linksys wins.

      The Netgear Gigabit Adapter didn't work on my PC. However, my PC is an older model. The Netgear didn't work because Windows couldn't load in the driver. I run Windows XP Home Edition.       I was buying this to replace a network card that had quit in our server host - WinXP64-bit. Switched the one out of my desktop to the server - XP64 was supported by the desktop card. I put that in the server and put the Linksys in my desktop. Easy to install in the desktop WinXP32. Works great! Although I was able to work around the problem, Linksys should document that it does not work with WinXP64.

        Added this to an older pc with 10/100 onboard. This card installed easily and "just works". Gigabit speeds now after only about 15 minutes of setup.

          This product is used in connection with high speed fiber service provider. It works great and is very easy to install if you read the instructions prior to attempting the installation. The instructions state that the software must be installed prior to the card installation. A small concern was presented in that the instructions stated you may get a message that the software was not digitally Microsoft approved but go ahead with the installation anyway. I did not get that message and everything went really easy with no problems.
