After many years of reliable operations with the Linksys Wireless Access Point 11 (WAP11), I decided to upgrade to the dual-band, Linksys WAP610N. The number of wireless devices on my home network have significantly increased and the WAP610N meant upgrading from WEP to WPA2 encryption/security, 802.11b to 802.11n wireless protocol, and much faster performance. The change over was quick, easy, and painless for the family laptops, wireless printer, gaming devices, and smartphones.

Not worth the money

We bought this to increase the range in our building and link printers. The old router we were using provides a stronger signal than this thing. Waste of money for our purposes.

Comments about Linksys (WAP610n) Wireless-N Access Point with Dual-Band:

Bought at least a year ago and had issue with product out of Box. With a secured connection you could connect smart phones and tablets(Android or IOS) (for techie people wouldn't get IP address assigned via DHCP) you had to leave it unsecured to give them access(fixed with firmware 1.0.04 make sure it has it). Just now noticed with my son on you tube it only lets about 1/3 of bandwidth through on my network causing video to freeze constantly buffering. It works but not with out some bugs.

Reliable but barely covers one end of the house. Bought to replace an older wireless G access point but still have to use that one to get full coverage around the house.

This unit is advertised as being dual band, but you can only use one band at a time. It doesn't propogate ip addresses. The tech suppport cut me off after 20 minutes of frustrating "help" and the only way I could get it to work partially was to manually input DHCP info.

I currently have a linksys E2000 and we have a large office and are experiencing a weak signal on the other side (.6 compared to 10mb) I was advised to buy an access point and install on a network computer that is close to that side of the office. Which product would be best?

I have just ordered the 610N LINKSYS wireless bridge to use with my Samsung blueray receiver and attached TV. I also intend to replace my old wireless router. Is the WAP610n a router? In other words, I plan on attaching my modem to the new router (WAP610n) with cat5, and then attaching the bridge to the blueray player for wireless reception from the router. Is the WAP610n appropriate? What is difference b/t "router" and "access point"? Thanks

                    A:

This is a Wireless-N Router. This can be used to attach to your modem, providing a signal for the Blueray Player to connect to. An access point is different from a wireless router, in that it does not have a firewall and therefore is not appropriate to protect your local network against threats from the Internet.

I Have gotten my first laptop, and now need to be able to access the internet wirelessly. Would I be able to connect this to a hub so that my laptop could access my network wirelessly, or would I need to get something like the Linksys E3000 instead?

                  • A:

No, you need a video card for your PC with a TV output port. The video card could be either internal (need to open up the computer to install the card) or external (plugs into your computer's external USB port). Make sure the TV output port on the card matches the input you have on your TV (HDMI, component, S-video, or composite) or else you will require additional adapters.
