Comments about Linksys Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router - VPN v2.0:

Bought this router based on the features (specifically 4-port router and VPN capabilities) and prior experience with Linksys products. Setup was very easy and intuitive and I was quickly online. I immediately updated to the latest firmware (v1.1.03 as of this writing).

Most features worked perfectly right off the bat; multiple computers sharing a single Internet connection, SPI firewall, port forwarding (for hosting your own servers), etc. Unfortunately, after a week I still can't get the VPN to work (even after tech support) and I have been unable to complete FTP transfers. I called tech support again for the latter problem and was told it's a known issue for this router.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this if it isn't able to support something as common and simple as FTP. Until they fix this (and the VPN) problem, stay away.

Check the box before receiving the v2.0 has distinct advantages over the older version. Had to return to store to get correct version.

Comments about Linksys Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router - VPN v2.0:

I replaced my Wireless-G with this product. I now get a steady 300Mbps connection with this product. What's more, if you spend the extra $$ on this, you also are directed to Cisco's Small Business unit for support and they ALWAYS pick up. I have called a number of times at all hours. Lastly, as a side note, I was not seeing the performance I wanted with file transfers which turns out to be the result of my hard drive(s) (i.e. the hard drive doesn't write data as quickly as it travels across the wireless network at 300Mbps).

I looked at the Valet Plus and the NetGear RangeMax but went with this. It has a lot of configuration flexibility and has a powerful signal coupled with reliable support.

Comments about Linksys Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router - VPN v2.0:

I have owned at least 6 wireless routers from D-Link, Linksys and Netgear. All have expired (that is continuously disconnected on their own) after approximately 18 months of use and range in my three-story townhouse was always poor to marginal. When I got my iPad, I needed to finally upgrade from my D-Link DIR-615.

The Cisco router works great! Range is phenomenal compared to any previous router/range extender solution that I've tried. Best yet, a firmware upgrade made it perform even better and it works perfectly with every new (including the iPad) and legacy wireless device that we own.

IMO, it is definitely worth it to invest more in this business-class router rather than purchasing another consumer-grade router. It's range and compatibility is the best I've seen to date.

I use this in conjunction with the AE1000 adapter to get the performance that I do.

One should also be forewarned regarding older, negative reviews. The version I have is the 2.0 router with the latest firmware and it says "Cisco Small Business" on the box.

Comments about Linksys Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router - VPN v2.0:

This product isn't up to par with a lot of the other Cicso and Linksys products I've come to grow to love. I had three different IT professionals come to attempt setting this router up for my small business (and I can usually do this on my own) and none of them were able to get this to work with our existing network. Don't waste your time, money or energy with this router. Your money is better spent on a nice SonicWall device (like the TZ100).
