Pros: My keyboard tray is usually in the shadow, so the illuminated keys work great.
I prefer the lower profile, laptop type, keys.
Has 12 programmable upper keys that actually work.

Cons: It slows down the boot up time for my computer, for some reason.
Would be REALLY nice if it was a compact keyboard. Don't need the number pad.

This is the best keyboard I have used, including the $200-$300 ones that my friend has. Have had this keyboard for several weeks, and there have been no problems at all. The light still works, all the keys still work. Love it!

I purchased this keyboard after trying only the wired version in the store. The Wirless keyboard version was on sale for a cheaper price and so I purchased it thinking that wireless is even better. Unfortunately, when I got home and tried this keyboard, I found that the keyboard was not as slim as the wired version. The keys had much longer travel and were the smaller chicklet-style keys. I found these fisher-price-like keys clackity sounding and of low-quality. Even worse, the battery only lasted two days with less than 10 hours of total use. The wired usb charger would not charge the batteries to reach a level of more than 1 of 3 bars on the indicator, even when left charging overnight. I was looking for a keyboard to replace my high-milage logitech dinovo keyboard, which feels more like a laptop keyboard, which would also incorporate an attached num pad. The illumination was not required but I thought it would be a nice feature to have for evening work. I returned this keyboard for the wired version which elimates all aformentioned issues, is more responsive and tactile like my di novo board, and has completely different keys which have shorter travel and are more tactile than the wireless version. Also, the wrist wrest has a 'rubberized' feel to it and much more comfortable. Being tethered by a wire connection is not a huge inconvenience since I rarely move the keyboard more than 2 feet from the monitor. Certainly worth not having to worry about battery life while I keep illumination on as long and as high-intensity as I enjoy. I type 8-10 hours per day, so battery life and key response is extremely important to me. I remain baffled as to why Logitech did not make their wireless illuminated keyboard simply a wireless version of the wired illuminated keyboard? Yet, after this experience, I think it's a better idea to stick with wired given the illumination feature is inherently going to be a battery nuissance to you no matter how good your battery is (ie, sanyo eneloops,etc..).

Comments about Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800:

Far, far better than I thought it would be. The unifying reciever was an unexpected extra, works with my existing mouse perfectly, and frees up a USB port. Purchased only because the keyboard on my laptop didnt have a 10 key, and thought I was only going to use it on bookeeping days. Now I virtually never touch the laptop keyboard. Battery life has exceeded 14 days several times, and I'm typically at my desk 7-9 hours a day. Part of the key is remembering to turn it off at night, but even when I forget to do that, I still get a lot of days out of it. The lighting on the keys is just right, and the way it 'knows' your hand is getting close to the keyboard is just super cool.

Comments about Logitech Wireless Illuminated Keyboard K800:

'unifying' USB transmitter a big plus. Probably should have bought the combined keyboard/mouse package, but my existing logitech mouse was still fairly new. Fortunately, the two were compatible. Wish the keyboard lighting was a little brighter, but it does work well. I particularly like the keystroke pressure and tactile feel, very 'apple' like. Charge seems to last much longer than they claim, definitely a plus since I forget to turn it off pretty much every night. Overall, very good investment.

This keyboard will work with any computer or laptop that is has the capability of a USB port in order to plug in the receiver. Some devices require a software download in order to use the keyboard receiver, but this is a free download from the Logitech website.

I have read at other web sites that the batteries are not replaceable by the user? They state that one battery is covered by a tape which, if removed in order to change the battery the warranty is voided. Is this true? If so then this is a deal killer for me and I really was hopeful of purchasing this keyboard from Staples when on sale!

the batteries are completely replaceable. I have this keyboard and you just need to make sure you buy the rechargeable AA batteries.

According to Logitech the batteries are user replaceable. If a battery is covered by the warranty tape it is an error and will not void the warranty.

This unit is for professional use, and may not be the best for heavy duty use. The following keyboard is a wireless solar keyboard, and can be used in heavy duty environments, like dorm rooms and home or office: http://www.staples.com/Logitech-Wireless-Solar-Keyboard-K750/product_920333

            A:

This keyboard is designed for light touch on the keys. It really depends on what you classify as "heavy-duty", meaning used alot or pushing down hard on the keys, which is not recommended for any keyboards. Keyboards today are designed to be used frequently, and with ease of control, so any brand or model would work depending on your requirements.

How do I know if the keystrokes are being sent encrypted? Do I need to install any software to enable encryption?
I am concerned because the range of this keyboard is more than 30 feet, and I don't want any one snooping my passwords.
