My daughter (BS in Art/Drama) bought this, so it came into my life unbidden. But we all love it. I have a laminator, guillotine paper slicer, and Lassco corner rounder, so we've been able to create custom covers and page sizes. I created a 3x5 "mini-PDA' booklet using laminated postcards (Van Gogh's "Branch with Almond Blossoms") and a 8.5x11 notebook in which I keep my Outlook calendar, action items, sent items (autopreview, which I review during my commute for follow-up) and task lists. Plenty of Cornell note paper (print your own http://incompetech.com/graphpaper/cornelllined/) and personal reference stuff in the back. The punch makes this all possible without making me buy everyone's high-priced covers/inserts. Sweet!

Pages are difficult to turn

I've been using Levenger Circa products for a few years and PINING after a punch, so I was excited to see Staples Arc products priced more appropriately for those of us who are currently on "recession budgets" - INCLUDING the all-important punch.The holes this punch cuts are terribly tight to the discs, so pages do NOT turn freely. Circa punches make much larger holes, resulting in pages that turn very freely. This one works, sorta, but I'm really glad I got it on 25% sale rather than full price.Unless Staples has the manufacturer retool to make punches that cut larger holes and offers an exchange discount for those of us who invested in a POOR imitation, when I can AFFORD a Circa punch - I will be buying one and giving this thing away to someone who is willing to put up with the small holes it cuts. I'll limp along with this one in the meantime only because I need to, NOT because I want to.Right now? I wish I had socked away the [$] I spent so that I could have put it toward a Circa punch instead of this close-but-no-cigar punch.

I LOVE this idea! You can remove pages, write on them and put them back with the greatest of ease. This is much better than a 3 ring binder because there are at least a dozen holders to keep the page in; with a regular binder, if you destroy the 3 holes that's it, it's not going to stay in place.

It is a great price for this type of punch from looking at other comparable punches. The only downside is that it only punches 8 sheets at a time.

Product is a necessity if investing in the Arc customizable system, which I purchased after seeing a friend's system and hearing her high regard for it. Hole punch is well worth the money. The device is well constructed, easy to use and precision-oriented. This is a great system.

This punch is worth the investment. Remember all thosE half used notebooks, notepads, stationary, etc you have around the house? Well now you can punch them and stick them into your ARC system and use them! Zero wasted paper.
If you try out the ARC notebooks and you love the freedom it provides when rearranging your pages, you really should get this punch so you can punch your printouts, scrap papers, etc.
The Punch itself feels well constructed and durable and it is very easy to use.
One thing though, dont try pulling the tray out because it is a pain to hook back up, now i just bring the wastebasket over to my desk and empty it out that way. Other than that, this thing is awesome.

What the thickest stock that you can put in the punch? Can I punch something that is plastic or nylon?

  I have used materials made for comb binding systems with my Arc punch with good results. GBC and Fellowes have stiff clear plastic covers which don't jam in this punch. I layer them with a sheet of card stock to make my own booklets.

  The M by Staples Arc System Desktop Punch is not recommended for use on plastic or nylon material. The thickest stock recommended for use is 60 pound card stock.

  This punch is designed to punch paper to specifically fit in the 'ARC' System of folders, inserts, and covers. These only come in 2 sizes, the larger being the US 'Letter' size, which is 8.5" x 11".
  
  A4 paper is longer than letter size (11.7" vs 11"), so it will not fit in this punch.

  A4 paper (8"W x 11.7"L) is about 11/16 of an inch longer than letter size paper. This paper punch is specifically designed to fit plain, letter size paper into an 8" x 11.5" Arc Binder.

  The Levenger brand notebooks commonly come in the same sizes as Arc ones, so the Arc System Desktop Punch will likely work.

  Mine works fine with my Levenger binders and clips. It's a little harder when turning the pages than the pre-made sheets, but I think that was more to do with the fact that Levenger uses a higher paperstock quality than your average sheet of paper.
