Q: How would I know if the dvd drive on my laptop will record onto a double layer dvd? It records on the regular 4.7gb dvds. Asked on 9/8/2012 by Summer Know the answer? Q: Do dual layer DVDs play in "standard" DVD players? Asked on 4/17/2010 by Anonymous Know the answer? Answer this question 8 answers A: I received your inquiry through the Question & Answer feature of Staples.com and wanted to respond to you directly. Because your inquiry is specific in nature (playback will depend on the make and model of your DVD player) it would be best resolved by a member of our customer service team. They will be glad to help with your question. You may contact them online at http://www.staples.com/sbd/content/help/contact/index.html or by phone at 1-800-3STAPLE (1-800-378-2753). Thank you for your inquiry. Answered on 4/27/2010 by Customer Care from Staples A: You can't really give this question a simple "yes" or "no" answer. They will play in most if not all recent DVD players. I have a 10 year old Toshiba player that won't play any burned DVDs, single or double layer. Playback may be inconsistent in some players, depending on how the disc was burned. I guess I can give your question a "yes" answer, with the above caveats. Answered on 8/26/2010 by mrsaxde from Delaware A: I have had no issues using a properly burned DVD DL in standard DVD players. The key is "properly burned". Since I use these to back up my commercial DVD's, I always do a bit-for-bit verification of every copy. Takes twice as long, of course, worth the peace of mind! Answered on 1/27/2011 by PG from Birmingham, AL A: Yes, in fact, a lot of DVD's (such as a television series on DVD) are burned on Dual Layer DVD's. The only difference between these and a standard DVD is the amount of data that can be stored on the DVD. Answered on 5/26/2010 by BK from 805, CA A: I have been able to play these DVDs on the standard DVD player that I have in my daughter's room - it is a small inexpensive one not Blue ray compatible. Answered on 10/12/2010 by T Teacher from Massachusetts A: Yes and no. If your DVD player can play copies, then it should play fine. Answered on 12/29/2010 by ChewChew from Dunellen, USA A: Yes as long as you burn them correctly in the right format. Answered on 3/1/2011 by PhReAkaZoID from Fort Valley, GA A: If by standard you mean players that read single-layer DVDs, of course. They even play in Bluray players. As far as I know, DVD players have always been able to play either single- or double-layer DVDs. Answered on 6/18/2011 by Lucky Guy from Brownsville, TX
